This is VERY exciting. But, I'm a little confused..... April 22?

Oh okay. Thank you! I clearly didn't read far enough into the article, which is sad because it's in the first paragraph.

I thought for sure we were gonna hear an announcement today that Barry was pulling those chairs out of storage and re-opening on the Bway, 12 noms is impressive.

^I thought the same thing, but they aren't likely to win many, if any, and especially with most of the critics still out.
But I won't complain about having them on the West Coast. Wonderful news!!
Does this basically rule out the possibility of a NY reopening?
Personally, I don't think it does, even if the chances of it happening are very low: this was obviously planned for a while (the west cost 'premiere'). 12 hours isn't enough time to plan and announce a new Broadway opening, if the nominations make it a consideration.
If the show were to return to NY, I think it would be an off broadway run.

This is for next year. It doesn't rule out a New York reopening. Perhaps it's a good sign for that...or maybe I'm just doing some serious wishful thinking here. I'm sure that with all these nominations, the cast would be eager to return to it.
I would step on a puppy for this to re-open in New York. I was out of the city for its entire run.
Knew the Old Globe was still pursuing one more musical for next year's season but had no idea it would be The Scottsboro Boys. I am so excited that I will finally get to see this hopefully with many from the OBC. I was so disappointed when it closed and am overjoyed that it's getting new life beginning at the OG. Hopefully it will find its way back to Broadway perhaps on off-Broadway again :)
