Just finished the book.

Before reading it, I was unconvinced that this self-proclaimed "Broadway Historian" who is in her mid-20s, and who was a PA on [title of show] and says that "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" was the first show she saw at the Imperial could come up with a great historical book about Broadway Theatre.

I was wrong. The book is terrific, full of wonderful interviews with people who worked in Broadway theatres. Yes, some of the stories are old. (Ann Miller writing on her insurance claim that her occupation was "Star." But some are wonderfully new, like in the chapter about the Winter Garden (President Clinton peed here!)

Overall, I highly recommend it. Even when she does personalize things, it gives you that Moss Hart Act One feeling like "Hey, this is the first time I stepped on a Broadway stage!" fun. Her research is impeccable.

After reading the book, I feel like Ms. Tepper joins the ranks of Ken Mandelbaum, Ethan Mordden and Peter Felicia as great people researching and recording our musical theatre history.

I can't wait for the next volume.
