That's when you decide on a show, then halfway through the perfromance you picked, you think"....darn, should have gone with__________." Last night I chose Shrek over ROCK of AGES and Guys and Dolls. About halfway through the first act I thought how either of the other shows would have been a better choice. Still, I do like to try to see all of the Best Musical Nominees....so at least this is off the list now. Last year I remember feeling the same way when I saw Grease.

I'll always regret when I chose to see BatB (for the second time) with Andrea McArdle over AGYG (for the first time) with Reba.
I didn't realize that until years later, though, and I very much enjoyed BatB lol.

Posted: 5/22/09 at 10:46amI guess the feeling was a lot greater before I moved to NYC from DC. Once when I was visiting, I had to pick between the revivial of Company and Grey Gardens. I picked GG because I wanted to see Christine, but still regret never getting to see that revival of Company, since it is one of my favorite Sondheim shows.

Well, cut you remorse in half because I saw Guys and Dolls last night and it is a lifeless production. It is a sad case of something going terribly wrong from the start, but I am not sure what. Direction perhaps.
Guys and Dolls is a show that high schools routinely put over, and this big money production just lies there like a bad date.
At least Shrek is funny. We had to wait until Sit Down, You're Rockin' The Boat to have Mary Testa wake us up and make us really laugh. Seriously, this is a major disappointment.

Posted: 5/22/09 at 11:15amI don't remember what I saw at the time, but I regret not taking my partner to De La Guarda before it closed (I saw it in London in 1999). Another was seeing Spamalot for the 2nd time with a sub-par cast instead of seeing The Year of Magical Thinking.

Rest easy, GATOR!
SHREK was definitely the BEST of those three choices by far, in my opinion.

Posted: 5/23/09 at 12:32amYes! I picked Rent (which I had already seen) over Taboo, which was closing that weekend. I know Taboo wasn't great but I've since fallen in love with the score and would've loved to see it.

I hear your pain. I chose Shrek to complete the "Tony run" so I will have seen all nominees. Sutton Foster and John Tartaglia were out. Sarah Jane Everman played a humorless Princess Fiona and Daniel Breaker way underutilized the potentially endearing Donkey role. However, I enjoyed both Brian D'arcy James and Christopher Seiber and thought the set/costuming were fabulous.
However, anything with fart jokes totally loses me.
I wanted to hold my breath to see if I could pass out and be spared even a few minutes of the pain.
Unless you are 5 years old or think fart jokes are funny, spend your money and time elsewhere.

Totally. I went with Absurd Person Singular and spent the next four months angsting about how I should've gone with The Lover/The Collection instead. Then I saw 'em, so now I just angst about having wasted a whole afternoon of an otherwise fantastic trip with the s***e that was APS. Good job I saw Othello that evening, I guess...
