I was just wondering what the difference is between TKTS tickets and Student Rush besides the obvious age factor and location of pick up. Is there a difference in price, better seating, etc.? I thought they were both half-price, but then why even bother with Student Rush? Would it be better to go to TKTS? Basically any information will help.

Also, are Student Rush tickets only available to NY students? Or to any student with a student ID anywhere in the world? And if you can buy up to two tickets at the student rush price, can you also get a student rush ticket for someone who isn't a student?

Usually student rush is cheaper and gives out much better seats.

Student rush is not normally $56.25 or so. The highest I remember is $36 or so for Sweeney.
Many tourists don't know about it, so lines are definitely shorter.
Sometimes better seating, but sometimes not.

I'd choose student rush over TKTS anyday.

Student Rush is 21.25-26.25 and 36.25 for Company. TKTS is $50-$65. The better seating depends on the show. TKTS is whatever they release at the time you go. Student Rush either reserves seats, gives you partial view that's left, or gives you the best seat that's left depending on their policy.

There is a pretty big difference in Student Rush and TKTS.

Student Rush is obviously open to only students. The price for Student Rush is always cheaper than TKTS, at least I can't think of an example where it is not. Student Rush is almost always, for Broadway shows, 20 - 26.25, and 36.25 for the late Sweeny Todd Revival, and now Company. The seats depend on which show it is, but usually the seats are in the first couple rows. Jersey Boys, Company (mostly), Color Purple, and many more are example of front row student rush shows. However, for Rush, there are a lot of shows which are very competitive. Jersey Boys, for example, sells their rush tickets when the box office opens that day, which is 10am for most days, it has been known for people to show up at like 6am to get in line and wait. So you have to decide if you're willing to get up and go down there that early to wait in line for tickets that night.

TKTS usually has anywhere from 25 - 50% off of the tickets, which makes it more expensive than student rush, but TKTS offers some shows that doesn't have Student Rush. TKTS seating all depends on what is available. Student Rush usually has seats set aside only for Rush, while TKTS is there to sell the seats that just haven't been sold yet in the theatre, so they could be anywhere from up close in the orchestra to the back mezzanine.

All in all, I would say do Student Rush if they offer it before doing TKTS, but TKTS is always a nice backup.

Rush is available to all students, and you can buy two tickets for most shows with one student ID, but you can only get one with some shows. Grey Gardens comes to mind. And yes you can buy a ticket for a non student, but some people don't like it when people do that :) But there is nothing against it, as you can buy two tickets with one ID for many shows.

Also, you can use student rush tickets if your not a student. Techencally you shouldn't but the tickets are the same as all the other tickets for that show so they don't check. And, you need a student ID peroid. It doesn't matter if its international or out of NY state. My brother and I went to see wedding singer with student rush and he goes to college in Mass. He used his college student ID to get student rush tickets. So, they don't care bout state. But, even though you can use student rush tickets if your not a student, you can only be a student to buy them.
