TO BE OR NOT TO BE begins previews Sept. 11 at the Biltmore

Casey Nicholaw will direct the adaptation of Edwin Justus Mayer's 1942 classic TO BE OR NOT TO BE at the Biltmore Theatre, beginning previews Sept. 11, in advance of an Oct. 2 opening.

"According to MTC, "At the Polski Theatre in 1939 Warsaw, Joseph and Maria Tura are about to open yet another smash with their theatrical troupe. As the German invasion gets underway, the theatre is closed by the censors, forcing the troupe to face desperate times. But when a handsome young bomber pilot enlists their help to catch a spy, what is a group of actors to do? This hilarious black comedy is an ingenious commentary on the World War II era and an inspired tribute to the timeless joys of the theatre.""

It's best known for it's remake, which starred Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft.

That remake is best forgotten.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one who intensely disliked what Brooks did!

I wouldn't say it was best known for its remake. I knew it from the original.

Yeah, I think the Lombard version is the best known version.

This is the first I've ever heard of this stage adaptation and/or film... Sound interesting and entertaining, I hope to buy tix to see this comedy come October.

Oh cute, this is different and fun. I LOVED the original movie and really like most MTC productions. Interested in who the two leads are.

I'm seeing TOP GIRLS this weekend.

Yea, saying the Brooks version of one of the BEST films ever is "best known" is like saying The Wizard of Oz is best known from the film version of The Wiz.

I just saw the original for the first time a couple weeks ago and was wondering why this wasn't adapted for the stage. Can't wait to see this!
