I thought of one...........judging by the part and the cast recording, I would have given Priscilla Lopez the Tony over her castmate Carole Bishop(now Kelly Bishop) for the 1975 featured actress in a musical. Luckily Priscilla won Tony in the category in 1980.
As for Pippin losing, well it was up against A Little Night Music, which rightfully won IMO.
Kelly Bishop's Sheila stole every moment in ACL and broke hearts with "At the Ballet." She definitely deserved the Tony over Lopez.

i love assasins! r u kidding! i wanted to see it in person but i couldn't get tickets, so i taped the performance at the tonys! it was sooooo good!!!!!!

In the film JULIA, playwright Lillian Hellman, played by Jane Fonda, scores a triumph with her play THE CHILDREN'S HOUR and tells her lover, novelist Dashiell Hammett, that she is delighted she can now afford to buy a fur coat. Hammett tells her, "That's fine, Lily, as long as you remember that it's only a fur coat and has nothing to do with writing."
The same thing applies to the Tony Award. Given the politics involved and the general dearth of quality on Broadway, the Tonys have little, if anything, to do with excellence.
As far as THE LION KING vs. RAGTIME contretemps goes, audiences will still be thrilling to the visionary Taymore show when the product-by-committee-that-dropped-the-ball-at-every-opportunity RAGTIME will have been consigned to the dustbin of musical theatre history.
Just thought of one while making a thread.....Chita Rivera not being nominated for Anita way back in 1957......Also, if Larry Kurt wasn't nominated, he should of been too.
On the flip side, Chita Rivera probably shouldn't have been nominated for Bring Back Birdie....that had like what...3 performances???
I born in 1981, so no.......but I have the Cast Recording and she's great in it, and I know that it's a scene-stealing famous role.....so that's enough right there
AIDA not being nom for best Musical Wicked losing best musical and score to Q (love Q but W was better in those catagories) Les Miz not winning costumes
What about Sarah Brightman not being nominated for Phantom???? She's wonderful on the CD....but I have heard some other things about her....Still I would think that The Phantom, Cristine, Raoul, and Carlotta would all be sure nominations.....
So many of these posts and the responses they elicit seem to reflect valid differences of opinion. To me "disgrace" is bigger than Marissa Jaret Winokur vs. Bernadette.
The only night I remember really being outraged was 2001--I thought the "The Producers" All-Tonys-All-The-Time sweep was lazy, insulting bandwagon-jumping crap, and it really angered me; that was a disgrace.

Well for the first one, I think you all know what Im gunna say so I just wont.
The Producers winning 12 Tonys. Its a great show but Lord up above its not THAT good!
Beauty and The Beast only winning for costumes, I believe. It was such a wonderful show!
Musicals that truly deserved to win the Tony but didnt: Again, you all know what Im going to say so... next! Gypsy Ragtime Dreamgirls Peter Pan *I dont believe this won but Im not sure* and there are so many more but Im blanking out!
Also, Mamma Mia! walking away empty handed. By far not the best show on Broadway but it was shameless fun. It was a wonderful night out, IMO.
Little Shop not being nominated for Best Revival. This production was amazing! It was so wonderful and I was so upset when it didnt get a nod.
I'm on the fence with Millie and Urinetown. They were two wonderful, wonderful shows but they were so amazingly different I cant compare. I was happy Urinetown took home Director, Book, and Score but I dont know if it shouldve won Best Musical or not. I loved both shows dearly but they cant be compared.

Herman must have thought his comments were a bit over-the-line -- he's apologized numerous times for it and said that he didn't mean it the way it sounded. Bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum...
