Thank goodness I bought my ticket for the 18th!
NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ugh!! I had my hopes up it would extend!!!! July 18th is too soon!!
Now I can't see it!
The Roundabout should be ashamed. I am going to write a letter.
They really need to get their act together. First they blew Cabaret, then they overblew Nine, and now they can't handle what they have with Assassins.
Too many stars, not enought payroll.
It's too bad.
grrrrrrrrrrrr.
I REALLY wanted to see this. The 18th is WAY to soon.
Yes, but PLEASE keep THE LION KING open for a decade! Christ, nobody has any taste anymore.
I know there are tons of areas where other shows are quoted, but can anyone name some good Assassins ones? I have a horrible short term memory, and I know I laughed a lot when I saw it on Sunday, but I can't remember any of the lines specifically.
OK I am offically bummed. I never liked Wednesdays anyway!

I just don't understand. Hasn't Assassins been playing to near-capacity houses since the Tonys?
Thank goodness I got tickets for the 17th. Crappy tickets, but still tickets.

There aren't any real crappy tickets to this show. Seeing it from anywhere is amazing. I saw it from the top row of the balcony (the "bar" seats") and it was still amazing . Seeing it from that far away allows you to see the show as a whole. You can appreciate the directing even more from the back because you have a better view of th entire stage and everything that is happening. I was blown away. I hope to get there this weekend to see it once more before it closes. Hopefully I can still get tickets today for a performance this weekend. Enjoy the masterpiece!
Jamie Hat- good luck with that letter!
This is an outrage! Bombay Dreams is still open, yet Assassins is closing?? WTF? There's definitely a problem here!

Thanks, FinnFanatic. :) I don't really mind sitting far away for this show; I just want to see it. And Studio 54 isn't the biggest theater out there anyway.

I'm so mad! Ugh, you guys are right. Assassins is one of the most creative, thought-provoking, and unique shows on Broadway and I am sad to see it leave.
it was one of the most powerful experiences maybe if you guys can sell them out again we can keep the show open forever!!!!hahahahahahahahah

But that's just the thing- they've been playing to more than 90% capacity houses for weeks now. What's the deal? If they're complaining about advance sales, maybe the fact that they made the extension tenuous rather than definite turned people off buying tickets beyond the 18th. Duh.
exactly. to be exact, PLUM, they were at 94% capacity last week...and they're CLOSING? crazy.

MargoChanning posted about this on another thread- the problem was average ticket prices. Too many audience members were subscribers and others using discounts.
And certain musicals I won't name roll on and on and on...makes you wonder where theater snobs are coming from.
MargoChanning responded to a post about Cabaret also being a limited run but playing for years:
But when Cabaret was about to shift from Roundabout's LORT contract to the standard Broadway Production Contract (a substantial increase in weekly running costs) it had an advance of over a million dollars, so it made sense for Roundabout to continue on with the show in an open ended run. It was reported that "Assassins" has an advance of $90,000, so once all the subscribers have seen the show (which is very soon -- the reason grosses look so high is that Roundabout has something like 50,000 subscribers), weekly grosses will drop substantially and the show would start losing money. Single ticket sales have been extremely weak, so Roundabout, being a not-for-profit not willing to sustain huge losses, is doing the financially prudent thing and closing the show.
They're closing because if they can't make over $400k a week they'll be losing money. Somebody isn't bedgeting well if you need to be at 90% to break even.

I am so cranky right now... I love this show so much. I'm thrilled to have seen it 3 times, and my last time on Friday was just PERFECT. A hell of a way to go out. Damnit.
Quotes?
"And next week I'm going to be the ambassador to France!!"
"You've been shooting at your lunch."
"I think you should get a different job!"
"Your son's an a**hole!"
I guess it's obvious who my favorite character is. Hee.

I MUST see it again before it goes away.
I'm pissed that all the good shows leave and money hoarding sucky shows stay.
GAHHHHHHH
"I'm pissed that all the good shows leave and money hoarding sucky shows stay."
Amen. This isn't fair.
