why wasn't it on for me?
"(And most stars, if you pay attention, have pre-rehearsed anecdotes they use when they go on talk shows....)"
This is definitely true, but most of the time, the star knows how to sell it a little better as unrehearsed. Kristin is a good actress, so she should have been able to sound more spontaneous, but IMO wasn't able to. She also wasn't really interacting with Ellen -- it was kind of like, "I'm going to tell this story, no matter what." Ellen seemed very bored with the story. (all IMO, of course)

You can watch the interview on http://www.interviewsrus.com/home/. If you are not already registered, it's an easy process and you can download interviews for free. There's a picture of Kristin from that interview on the home page now, accessible through the TV interviews category (relates to promoting a TV show--in this case, The West Wing).

I watched the interview after reading most of these comments, expecting the worst. I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed watching it. Kristin is definitely an upbeat person but didn't come across as phony to me, as she appeared to others that have posted here. Ellen seemed to be friendly enough, not negative toward her. Perhaps Ellen's perceived lack of enthusiasm could be the result of her just recovering from an illness, or still fighting it (a cold virus, like so many of us have had to deal with recently) or something else going on in her life. It didn't seem to have anything to do with Kristin.
I had never heard Kristin sing, but now I want to, after hearing her hit some of those high notes while giving Ellen an opera lesson. Her singing voice is amazingly good and so contrary to what you might expect from listening to her speaking voice.

ok...i take back my in defense of kristin post. i finally saw the entire interview today.
ellen looked..just..baffled..she didn't really even know how to cut kristin off..cause kristin just kept yapping! about........NOTHING!
back to defense though..i think she was extremely nervous. i didn't find it PHONEY..but i found it "affected and put on". which i guess you can interpret as phoney (is it phony?)...but in general kristin is genuine..this was just not a good spot. period..i was really uncomfortable watching it. i can critisize all i want but I AM NOT booked on the Ellen show anytime soon! hahahah!!!!
I'm confused. Within one post you took back your defense, but then you also continued it.

sorry!! i had posted a TOTAL in defense of kristin post earlier on in the thread..i take it back..the spot on ellen was AWFUL! but giving her the benefit of the doubt that she was nervous...there is always the chance that hollywood as gone to her head and she is just a big ol phony fake now...i haven't seen her(socially) in a long time.
Yes, you took back your previously posted defense, but then you went on and said "back to the defense," continuing to stand up for her. So you're not *totally* defending her, but you're defending her a little?
.... nevermind.

LOL!!! i am trying to give her the benefit of the doubt because i know her to be a nice person and want to think the best of her but that interview with ellen was GOD-awful and even worse if you know Kristin...i just felt extremely uncomfortable for her and Ellen didn't help! its late! i don't know what i am talking about.
Ah, yes. It's all clear now...
She seemed nervous. Give her a break. The end.

That's a link to the full segment. Very funny.
I thought it was a funny interview and I love the way Kristin told the story of her hair catching fire--not the actual story so much as the way there was a hand gesture for everything--but I agree that there was something awkward about the whole thing. Ellen actually looked physically stiff . . . maybe her back is out again? Or maybe she just isn't used to not being able to get a word in! It was funny when she asked her, "And you blame this on the parade?" I didn't really see anything fake from either of them, just uncomfortable. Oh well!
I agree with my sister, Rae, haha hi sis... we watched it like two times in one day and I thought Kristin was adorable and the story was funny, and although I did think Ellen looked a little amused and kind of overwhelmed, I didn't think it was phony at all (until Kristin got kind of "star struck" and mentioned her stand up it seemed like she was sort of sucking up but it was cute). Anyway I still think Kristin was adorable!
