The Weinstein Co. has acquired worldwide film rights to the Pulitzer Prize and Tony-winning play "August: Osage County" and will produce a feature adaptation.

I've no doubt they will get a top-notch cast to fill all these wonderful roles that Tracy Letts created.
Let's hope there's a Lily Tomlin/Judy Davis involved as Vi.

Wouldn't mind Meryl as Violet, but this is a case where there are a dozen actresses who could be just as interesting and less predictable casting.
Kerri Russell is completely wrong for the sisters. She is way too young for Ivy or Barbara, and just lacks the oddness of Karen.
The piece of casting I'm the most interested about is Barbara though. I just hope they don't get someone like Julia Roberts.

Oh, he did "Waitress" recently. He even danced a bit in that one.
Somehow, I think he's a bit older than what Weinstein will go for in casting, though. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if they cut the part entirely and started the film with him missing.

There are lots of potentially great Violets out there -- obviously Meryl Streep, but also Glenn Close, Jessica Lange, Sissy Spacek, etc. -- but I would love to see Jane Fonda in the part. And Laura Linney would be great as Barbara.

I think Tommy Lee Jones would be good as Beverly.
The Prologue is relevant but I'm not sure if it would work well on film. Perhaps as a voice over narration? I'm not sure.
