Notice how Mr. R keeps saying "...no villains here..." and then goes on to make it crystal clear that everyone involved, particularly Ms. O, is a villain? The usual Addison de Spit, and no surprises, here.

Auggie:

you mean no surprises re: Addison de Spit (love that, by the way), or no suprises as to the tales that have come out of the whole TABOO experience?

I must add that I think Rosie is mistaken -- no book about TABOO will be written. Yikes. :)

What a silly sad little man. Riedel is such a pompous windbag who in my opinion knows nothing about theater. His lame attempts at insults are mean spirited and lacking in originality. Let's hope that someday we can have real journalists writing thoughtful and articulate articles about theater instead of the drivel the Post spews.

Ummmmm, yeah, ok. Anyway, I read that article today and Reidel did pay a compliment to George's score. However, Reidel must have to hire bodyguards because of the amount of hate he throws out into the world. I will never understand people like him. Just plain nasty and shameful behavior.

Yup, I believe in karma. Interesting thought - I think a lot of people are living their own bad karma. What do you think? People like Reidel gotta have issues that we're not even aware of. It must be awful. However, I find it hard to be sympathetic towards people who keep putting that crap out into the world,............um I mean the BroadwayWorld.

Shameless promotion everywhere.

"[i] must add that [i] think [r]osie is mistaken -- no book about [taboo] will be written. [y]ikes. :)"

maybe not, but they've got hundreds of hours of documentary footage for waht was to be the making of taboo documentary. man i'd love to get my hands on that! so technically rosie has enough footage to make anyone she wants into the villain should she so choose.

to all you people who attack riedel constantly. if you despise him so much, why do you continue to read it? if you want high kinded theatrical commentary, read the times. this is the post, for goodness sakes. it's rupert's little shlock-bloid. if any of you who complain so vociferously about riedel were to miss one of his columns i'm sure that the earth would swing wildly off its axis and spin into the sun. every weds. and fri. it's like a contest to see who can bitch the longest and loudest. geez, get over it.

for the record, i love riedel, and i've been scorched by him in print and he was dead on all the way through about taboo.

No, but my bird would be mad because I wouldn't have anything to use when I changed the lining of his birdcage.

I know we all love to think that Reidel is a miserable man living in his own private hell, but something tells me that's just not the truth.

I have to say, I found this latest edition to be well written and pretty dead on.

Mambo, you and I know he goes too far. He hits wayyyyyyy below the belt. He gets wayyyyyyyyy too personal. It's supermarket tabloid reporting plain and simple.

I've never written about the man before today. If you read through the various posts by me today, you'll also notice that very early this morning I posted that Reidel had written something nice about George's score. I left it at that.

However, he does send mean spirited hatred out into the world on a regular basis. If that's ok with you, good luck to you.

I have to agree with you Robbie about the facts he offers in this column. I suppose it's the subtext of gloating that so often accompanies his POV; even when it's not palpable, we attribute a certain venomous edge to his reporting. Just goes to show you -- the readers create the reputation. I never buy the raggy Post, but can't resist these links, and clearly fall prey to the syndrome Papa so aptly nails.

podium, i know nothing of the sort and disagree with the idea that he goes too far. if you think he goes too far, that's your opinion, please don't presume to speak for what i do and do not know.

one person's mean spirited hatred is another person's honesty and i'm all for honesty.

I don't understand what people have an issue with here. Aren't his comments pretty much on target with the opinions about TABOO voiced on ALL B'way message boards over the past few months? Haven't most of us said the same things to friends or family? Anyone here not think the show would have been more successful Off-B'way?

Rest in peace, Iflitifloat.

I don't understand how we can sit here and scream that he spews hatred into the world. Look, he drove me nuts with his slamming of Bernadette Peters in GYPSY, but he was just reporting facts, gossip and, at times, his own opinion. Yes, he's smug and smarmy. Yes, he rubs people the wrong way. But he's not advocating hatred for anyone. I don't think we can call this a musical theatre bias crime.

There's a reason the song Schadenfreude (sp?) in Ave. Q brings down the house. It hits a chord in the audience because we all do it. Sometimes only in our heads, but it's there.

I may get furious with him sometimes, but I thank God for Michael Reidel. He digs around for the juicy stories and reports them. And in some bizarre way, it gives a legitimacy to theatre. If it wasn't important enough to be said, then it's probably not important enough to be seen.

I think it's his attitude. For instance, why mention the candy corn and how much she eats and when? It had nothing to do with Taboo. Just a jab at Rosie and her eating habits. It was her first attempt at producing a Broadway musical. She made some mistakes. All that proves is that she has a lot to learn about producing a successful musical. What would be interesting is if she were treated as a producer instead of a celebrity. She invested her own money, so the show literally belongs to her. She can do with it as she likes. I really don't see how it's Riedel's responsibility to dig up every piece of dirt he can find and write about it. Like some people on this board, finding the good in the show is apparently an effort he's not willing to expend. And I'm sure there is enough good in the show to publish a column of equal length.

Am I the only one who saw Riedel DEFENDING O'Donnell at points? He says she saw trouble & wanted to change the director -- he says she was thwarted by O'Dowd. So, who's at fault there? In fact, if he's painting a villain, it's O'Dowd (can't act, uncooperative, etc.)

As for Riedel himself, well it's a gossip column for pity's sake. That's why he's printing GOSSIP. It's the readers who take it as cold hard fact who are at fault if they put too much stock in it. As someone who works on Bway, I can say (& very sorry to say it, too) that his sources are generally reliable enough that he catches the mood & gist of the street gossip quite well. I'm just embarassed of any colleague who TALKS to him!

Then maybe he should be in the GOSSIP section of the Post instead of the ENTERTAINMENT section.

O'Dowd certainly doesn't have the power to stop Rosie changing anything. One of BGs favourite songs from the show was dropped, and she had no trouble ensuring the cancellation of his DJ dates during rehearsals. If she decided against replacing Renshaw, for fear of upsetting BG, then that's her weakness as a producer. She stated on the Taboo forum, that she didn't want to delay the opening, partly due to Liz McCartneys' scheduled maternity leave.

I am betting that when she talk about the things she has learned from this experience---that these are those things. To know when to be firmer--to watch for the red flags more.

I have to say, his article was more truth than crap this time.
