I'm pretty sure Taboo WAS taped for Lincoln Center. The Friday before closing, I think. As I remember the gossip of the time, Rosie paid for it's taping herself? Nonetheless, it is not commercial-release quality, and Lincoln Center's agreements with the various unions is that it will NOT ever be released commercially. It's not just a matter of wanting, but legal issues, rights issues, royalty issues, as well as quality issues.
There are some scenes of the finished show in the documentary DVD, but not the whole show. Would be great if someone who was on cruise could tell us just how much of the show IS on the documentary. Not that it won't be treasured by Taboo fans anyway.

Posted: 8/16/04 at 12:04amNot really. It's not like they would ever release it. I could care less if Lincon Center tapes anything, personally. They like to tell you they have things and than tell you that you can't see them. Screw 'em.

Petitions don't provide the money to produce and distribute the DVDs. I'm sure you could find petitions for just about every Broadway musical out there, but DVDs of Broadway musicals are EXTREMLY rare because they do not have a large enough audience to make them profitable. If you've ever seen a performance recorded for the Lincoln Center library, you will know they were not recorded for commercial distribution. You need several cameras and hours of editing to produce such a thing, so unless this was already done for Taboo, which was not a popular show to begin with so I doubt the DVD would turn a profit, I don't know how it could be possible.
Since The Boy From Oz sold well, and the show is slated to close, and given the popularity of its star, it is more likely it could produce a DVD that would sell based on Hugh's international fan base alone, but a petition will not be the deciding factor.

I recently bought the Taboo OBCR and I have to say wow. F'ing amazing music, why wasn't this show a sucess? And that's not rehetorical people, I would like to know. I missed the Taboo train obviously, but what exactly was the problem?
So I know very little about this show, is there some place I can read a detailed synopsis? I'm a bit confused about the plot...
I should start my own thread for this maybe, but ah well.
And I'll sign the petition, why not.

"If you've ever seen a performance recorded for the Lincoln Center library"
Have you seen one? Can you tell us what the cinematography or lack thereof was like? How did it compare to a live performance?

Yes there will be a making of Taboo Documentary available soon, but I want a commercially produced copy of the performance to keep as a memoir. This was an amazing show with an excellent cast and musical score. The documentary just isn't the same. If I had to choose, I'd prefer to have the performance and skip the making of the show. I don't understand why Rosie is releasing the making of Taboo instead.
To those out there who mentioned the London DVD version of Taboo, it is a totally different show which in my opinion isn't nearly as good. The Broadway production is worth seeing and I am still disappointed it didn't have a longer run. Taboo could be a cult classic in the making if they only give it another chance as a DVD release.

Posted: 8/16/04 at 4:09pmIt's understandable that you want a copy of it. Like was posted before, you are not going to get a profesionaly shot copy of this show.
