Posted: 1/18/08 at 11:45amI'm curious as well... I LOVE Armistead's books. Michael Tolliver Lives (the newest book) is great. Jake is adorable too.

Posted: 1/18/08 at 12:51pmCool idea, but to play devil's advocate....isn't there A LOT of story to fit into one musical? It would be a shame to see this turn into a COLOR PURPLE thing of "it almost worked, but they tried to pack too much in". The great thing about Maupin's books were how light and frothy they were...blowing it up could, well, blow it up.

Maybe it should be 3 parts in repertory?
They could call it The Coast of Gaytopia.
Or I guess the Bay of Gaytopia would be more appropriate?
In any event, a Whitty/Shears musical makes me tingle in various places throughout my body.

Posted: 1/18/08 at 1:56pmThis is actually not a bad fit. Scissor Sisters have kind of a disco retro sound anyway. I think you could easily pick and choose the story lines you wanted to use. Probably the one with Mrs. Madrigal and the rich guy, Michael and John, and Maryanne would have to come in somewhere... I guess...
