give me a break... i am all for color-blind casting, but, it's a show about indians....

they've had yound black billie flynn's and thats set in the 20's (its not too historically accurate especially with the character's fee)...so i guess a non indian will fly in bombay too

That is right about Billy Flynn (and indeed it annoys my mother), BUT it is not the same... Bombay Dreams is about the plight of Indians and the Indian film industry.

Chicago is not about whether Billy Flynn is white or black.... so casting him black is color-blind casting, which i support.

Tamyra Gray was awesome during AI. But, i cant see her in Bombay dreams. I wouldn't be surprised if the producers of bombay dreams did this with other celebrities during its run.

I thought this show was on the verge of closing.

Of course shows show be colorblind, but some roles - most of the ones in Hairspray come to mind- do require a certain ethnic background. Updated On: 10/14/04 at 07:46 PM

I have to agree with zoran912 -- we're not talking a landmark musical here. This kind of general-dark-skin-but-wrong-ethnic-group casting is not unprecedented. Just remember Vanessa Williams as Rose in the TV Bye Bye Birdie.

congrats to tamyra . she is a great singer and has been great in her acting roles on tv. now heading for broadway the sky is the limit for this girl.i can't wait till the movie roles start coming in and the awards she will win for her great talent.

It's all just a publicity stunt because Bombay Dreams has been doing lousy. Who cares, once she leaves (if she causes any increase in money during her limited engagement), the grosses will go down again.

i saw a list where it ranked at #11 on the list of top musicals for the week a few weeks ago. i guess that is not bad considering all the shows around . tamyra is not only a great singer as well as actress she is so beautiful as well . people will be able to tell the stage was made for her to perform on and word of mouth will bring people in to see her as she puts on a show of a life time.

These are the last 10 weekly percent attentions according to Playbill.com. They look mediocre to me, which is why this is definitely stunt casting. However, I shouldn't say anything based on her talent since I haven't seen her perform yet. She was okay on American Idol though.

actually i see 20 on the list . maybe your right the show does not sell out . i dont know what the average show does in terms of percentages .all i am is very happy for a very talented performer ,tamyra gray and am wishing she has great sucess in her performances in "bombay dreams" . anyone want to find out more about tamyra should check out her great web sites http://wwww.tamyra.org which has had some problems the last week but should be back in the next couple of days . or tamyra's official site http://www.tamyra.com/frames.php
