Taye Diggs

When did Taye Diggs take over as Fiyero?
(Martha Graham from a letter to Agnes de Mille) "There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening That is translated through you into action, And because there is only one of you in all time, This expression is unique. If you block it, It will never exist through any other medium And be lost. The world will never have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, Nor how valuable it is, Nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly, To keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware Directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, A blessed unrest that keeps us marching And makes us more alive than others."

I do know it was sometime when the rest of the original cast was in it. Just not sure if he did it on Broadway? Out of town try out? Before Norbert? After?

re: Taye Diggs

It was on Broadway when Norbert called out for a back injury, I think.

re: Taye Diggs

He took over the role for a short period of time while Norbert was in the role. I thin Norbert Leo Butz was sick at some point in the show and they had Taye Diggs in for a week? Maybe? And it was on Broadway.

Dec. 12, 2003, through Jan. 18, 2004, according to IBDB. He filled in as Fiyero after Norbert got hurt (either his neck or back, I believe).

re: Taye Diggs

i was just about to add that the chemistry between him and idina must have been fantastic

re: Taye Diggs

To me he has an accent that made the songs sound different. Is it a Brooklyn accent? Well, I'm not sure but it's some New York accent. I think it just made the songs seem a bit different then most are used to. He was definitely no where near bad. He was fine for me and I think his chemistry with Idina was amazing, something I've never seen. He was good though.

re: Taye Diggs

where can i hear a clip of him as fiyero?
"maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veered off course, we wouldn't fall in love, or have babies, or be who we are. After all, seasons change. So do cities. People come into your life and people go. But it's comforting to know the ones you love are always in your heart. There are some clips of him singing "Dancing Through Life" on idinamenzel.net in the media section...

He was on Ellen (Ellen Degeneres's TV-show) yesterday! He looked so good, it was a really sweet segment...

re: Taye Diggs

anyone have a transcript? I thought that was on today (Ellen) and missed it? re: Taye Diggs or would someone just sum it up and gimme the highlights? :) thanks!
If I show you the darkness I hold inside, will you bring me to light?

re: Taye Diggs

Taye's from Rochester, so I don't know where a Brooklyn accent would come from, but I didn't hear any accent.

While I LOVE Taye, he wasn't really able to hit some of the high notes in the music, especially during "As Long As You're Mine". But the on-stage chemistry between them definitely made up for it, because that was hot.

re: Taye Diggs

I don't have a transcript, but I can tell you that they talked about how he likes to go shopping and Idina doesn't (lol). That came from her telling him that his outfit was very stylish. What else.... oh yea! At the end he was dancing with her, and showing her some dance moves. He's a really good dancer! Ellen even had this picture of him at a dance school or something like that. That was basically it... unfortunately he had to share the segment with Hilary Duff (sorry for any diehard fans out there, I just don't like her that much...) All in all it was a sweet segment...

re: Taye Diggs

By the way, Ellen was a re-run.
And Taye's going to be in A Soldier's Play this Fall. You know, if you need your fill. re: Taye Diggs

re: Taye Diggs

Ah! It pains me to hear that Taye Diggs had to share a segment with Hilary Duff! Words cannot express how much I despise her.
