How about The Simpsons? Hank Azaria could do his parts from the show and maybe some of the others from the show.

I remember Cop Rock - and I remember liking it. Of course, I was 12, and my taste hadn't really developed, so it could have been horrible. Still, I would snatch it up in a second if they released it on DVD!
Joss Whedon is a genius. I knew that as early as the second season of Buffy, but Once More, With Feeling was the best hour of TV probably of all time. No other television musical has ever come close to living up to that bar, and it'll be a long time before one does.

I couldn't agree more. I think I have watched that episode about 100 times and still love it every time. Joss is my God.

Posted: 7/23/05 at 11:02pmI stopped watching TV when Buffy went away. Bring on the Buffy musical. It really would be cool to see staged. Think of the special fx.

Posted: 7/23/05 at 11:16pmHairspraydoll -- give Lost a chance. It's not QUITE like Buffy, but I think that the fan base is similar. I LOVE Lost, and it's taken over my Buffy obsession very nicely.

Posted: 7/23/05 at 11:19pmLost and Alias filled my Buffy void...but I still miss it like crazy.

Posted: 7/23/05 at 11:25pmThanks guys. I'll give it a try. I do have to admit I've been sorta watching the Deadzone. I've heard great things about Lost.

Hah...Is it strange that I could see Sonheim tackle Lost so well...and Lippa doing Alias...and JRB doing Six Feet Under...
I think so...but I could almost see them working.

Posted: 7/26/05 at 9:04amIn response to Buffy being a stage musical, a year or two ago the musical episode was staged at Yale and it was suprisingly really good. I think it could definitely work as an off-Broadway show at least.

Funny comment Liz, but oh so true.
I like the Antique Roadshow idea.
Mine are: Different Strokes
Good Times
Jarred, I'm trying to catch on to the vision of The Fresh Prince... as a musical, but the problem I'm having is there are just too many different angles, too much going on with the characters it seems. They don't need to sing.

Good Times was loosely based on Raisin (watch the credits), so it sort of was a musical to begin with (and Ralph Carter played basically the same role in both Raisin and Good Times).
I would love to see a musical based on American Gothic. Great campy show that nobody watched starring the hunky Gary Cole.
And all of this reminds me....whatever happened to the Tales of the City musical???

Mister Matt "Good Times" was not based on "Raisin". "Raisin" was a musical adaptation of Lorraine Hannesberry's play "A Raisin in the Sun". "Good Times" was a spin off of the show "Maude" where Esther Rolle's character of "Florida" was Maude's maid.
The "Raisin" credit during the ending credits of "Good Times" during it's first season reads: Ralph Carter courtesy of the broadway musical "Raisin" because Ralph Carter was still appearing in the show and flying out to LA to film the show. Other than that it has nothing to do with "Raisin".
BACK ON TOPIC:
I vote for "Buffy" as a musical.
