Started working for a non-profit a couple months ago, keep seeing threads about TDF (I know about TKTS, but didn't know about the other TDF option), so I went to their site and found out about getting tix through them at discount.

How far in advance are these tix usually made available?

What else do I need to know?

Thanks!

I love having my TDF membership. It is well worth the 30 a year fee. I don't live in NYC but I purchase about 6-10 tickets a year from them. Top ticket price for broadway is around 41. There is always a 5 fee added to each ticket so keep that in mind. I find that for broadway shows general 3-7 days out you will see tickets sometimes a bit further. Some off off shows are as much as 3 months out. You do not get to see your seating assignment until you arrive to pick up your tickets and many times you will be on the sides or up in the mezz. I don't buy all my tickets from TDF but like I said earlier I am quite happy with my membership. Also you can buy multiple tickets (up to 9?) so your friends don't need to be members to sit with you.

Thanks for the info. We don't live in NYC, either, but come in 5-6 times/year for shows. Do you pick up the tickets at the theater or elsewhere?

How wide a variety of Off B'way shows do they offer?

Is there just about always something available?

These are a few of the Broadway shows that are available today:
Seminar, Other Desert Cities, Magic Bird, Leap of Faith, Godspell, How to Succeed, and End of the Rainbow. Last night there were tickets available for JCS opening night. Priscilla has been there recently, as has A Streetcar Named Desire. It's well worth the annual fee. Hope this is helpful. Tell me about TDF

If you live more than 100 miles away from NYC you can join TDF for $12/year, instead of $30.

You do indeed pick up the tickets at the theater. There are always things available, including some off-Broadway shows and tons of off-off-Broadway shows. It doesn't take long to recoup your investment!

My only complaint is that I DO care where I sit. Because I don't live in the city and have to pick and choose carefully what shows I see and when, I'd rather rely on discounted seats that I can choose -- being where I know I'll have a good view (I really don't enjoy things from further back than the front row or possibly second of the mezzanine and I get claustrophobic sitting under the balcony). Of course, if you don't care where you sit, then it's a wonderful thing.

I agree with most of what has been said! TDF is a wonderful service. I joined a couple of months ago, and I've been enjoying my membership tremendously. I've just seen No Place to Go, and I have tickets to End of the Rainbow, Peter and the Starcatcher, and Clybourne Park.

One correction: the fee is $4, not $5, and it is per order, not per ticket.

Also, to get $5 off your annual membership fee, bringing it down to $25, go to retailmenot.com, type in tdf.org, and you'll get the code.

This is great stuff, thanks everyone! We're easily 100 miles away (210 from my door to 44th street), and we usually buy at the TKTS booth, or with a code from Broadway Box, so aren't too concerned about where we sit. Now to get a letter from HR confirming my employment!

Enjoy your membership!

Also, you can join right away and start looking at shows and buying tickets. You get 30 days to send in your documentation.

TDF never even asked me to confirm my theatrical employment, oddly enough.

Several weeks ago, I read a thread on All That Chat detailing TDF qualifications and someone posted that there is a website where if you post I think *4* reviews within a certain span, you can use that to qualify for TDF membership. I wish I recall what it was. It seemed like a bit of misinformation, so I paid no mind and never read it again before it fell off the board.
Just a small note, for what it's worth, right or wrong.

you can join tdf by writing 7 reviews over 3 months for Stage Grade. That's how I was able to join TDF (I even wrote all 7 reviews during one day about shows I'd previously seen and there was no issue)
