One of my daughter's tap students wanted to do a special thank you for helping her choreograph her first tap dance number and helping her with her tap solo. She knew my daughter really liked "Mean Girls" and contacted a cast member of the show to help with the thank you. I will not go into the details of what happened but it was just another example of how nice and wonderful Broadway people can be. I want to thank this cast member for truly making my daughters day with her kindness.

You don't have to share details of what happened or what was done but is there any reason you can't name the specific cast member to give her the credit she deserves for her kindness?
And just want to make sure I stay up to date here. Contacting a cast member to ask them to do something on their personal time for a fan they don't know is totally cool, but stagedooring is still an inappropriate imposition and should be abolished? Just checking.

I love this, and very much describes a fan. Fans are respectful and kind to actors they admire, and I think the cast member knew that, and gave the kindness right back.
Fans and "stans" (which have been discussed so much here lately) are like night and day.
Every member of this cast is beyond lovely. So glad to hear about your daughter's experience. :)

I never said stagedooring should be abolished. I just asked what purpose it served any show and what would happen if shows stopped doing it. I believe I also said that I don't think it will be abolished. I think there is a difference between a dance student writing a cast member and asking for something for her teacher than having cast member night after night sign autographs and take pictures. She could have very easily ignored the request in a minute and be done with it.To her credit, she was wonderful.

I thought maybe cast members do not want attention given to what they may do for a particular fan. The cast member was thanked by the parties involved and that is all that really matters IMO. I posted this item because I thought it was really sweet story and it is always nice to read positive threads.

Your welcome. I thought people would enjoy it.

Even if you may not have used the exact word abolished, the title of your thread was "No More Stage Door Autographs" and you argued that the practice should be stopped. If you want to say now you just asked what purpose it served and what would happen if the practice stopped cause you weren't sure where you stood on it and wanted to see what everyone thought, you can try that but we both know why you started the thread and what you were saying you wanted to see happen. And if you think the request that the cast member got from your daughter's student was the only one she got that week or even that day you can, but I bet she gets letters requesting signed programs, autograph requests and favors of various types all the time. I'm sure she tries to respond and help out as many as she has time for because she's a good person. And I'm sure it's just as much of a imposition on her personal time as 10-15 minutes at the stage door after a show. Some might say that either a person approves of imposing on a performer's personal time at a stage door or by mail to ask for a favor of any sort or they don't but I like your more nuanced approach where it's OK to do it if it was something that made you or a member of your family happy but not OK to do it if it didn't.

Congratulations on turning something that was supposed to be nice thread into disagreement on stagedooring. I am not going to continue to argue with you about it on this thread. I think I said all I wanted to about stagedooring in the thread I created.
