I've yet to see the show but I read about the number from an older article by Michael Riedel. What is that number like? Is it still in the show?
It was my favorite number of the show and yes, it is still in.
SPOILERS:
Jane and Michael are fighting over a toy and Jane takes the doll and tosses it inside her doll house and closes the door to it. Then a voice is heard inside it - it's the doll. Then the door to the doll house opens and the doll has come to life in the form of a human-sized toy. The rest of the bears, dolls, action figures, etc. that were in their room then come to life in huam-sized form. It's a dark, spooky number that teaches the Banks children to behave.
END SPOILER
I saw the show on Xmas Eve and it is this song that haunts me. I play is constantly on my iPod.
Just saw the show this evening, and I must agree, I really liked the song.

the children are put on trial for a 'loss of a most precious commodity, their temper' and the nursery turns into a very dark twisted nursery. I LOVE IT. Plus, Tyler Maynard is a fabulous main doll - Valentine.

SPOILER I GUESS ______
I think it's a great moment in the show, because it shows that the children are growing a conscience, and the magic is manifesting itself while Mary isn't around. So her "lessons" are rubbing off on them, and if they can start creating their own "magic" which of course, always comes with a message.
At first I thought it was weird, but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense to me. It did feel kinda creepy though, I think they could have staged it a little more whimsically and still ahve put the message across, but then that might have softened the edge a little too much.
Hard call.
I heard the orchestrations were changed for the song since the London opening. I guess its more ominous. Can anyone comment on the new orchestrations as opposed to the first ones used?
re: motman...
What?
It opened in London first... And the only thing that was changed was the length of the number... I doubt that they changed the London Temper Temper if it was working there...
I thought I read in an interview that it was now more hushed and less belting. I could be so wrong about that. I'm sorry If I'm being confusing. What I meant was that it was changed for Broadway and I think then changed for London as a result of the new orchestrations. Like I said I may be very wrong.

At least one major review said this number was "toned down" for Broadway to be less scary--I wondered what that meant but I guess it hasn't?
And in a similar question what do you mean the length was changed for Broadway?
the only difference I noticed is at the beginning of the number the have cut the "temper! temper! temper!...." and they added the bears and bunnies, I totally agree it is a fantastic number I love how now it;s Mary Poppins that ends the song, the new Mary in London is FABULOUS.
By the way the have cut "Spoonfull of sugar" aswell!

it is slightly shorter than it is here in London and there are minor changes to the orchestrations but is not really that toned down. A wonderfully sinister number. Without this dark number this would be just another saccharine Disney show.

I liek the song on the recording a lot but isn't that overstating things? Certainly it doesn't come off as scary as classic Disney scares like the Devil in Fantasia, the Witch in Snow White, Strombolli in Pinocchio, etc, etc...

No they didn't...
Yes they did. These lines are missing now:
A robin feathering his nest
Has very little time to rest
While gathering his
Bits of twine and twig
Though quite intent in his pursuit
He has a merry tune to toot
He knows a song
Will move the job along
The song is so stupid... I mean, I was laughing the entire time at the 5 year old behind mean asking his mom why this song was in the show (because it wasn't in the movie) and the mom in disgust that Disney would put this in a show.
