Very confused! Loved the new arrangements, but this is odd. Is there a big reason why this version is up for licensing?

Just a bit, especially considering it's Tams-Witmark who licenses the original. I mean, now that Cam Mac owns MTI, I'm not shocked he's keeping it in-house, but still... no negative feedback from Tams over this?

He owns 50% of MTI and has owned that 50% for 26 years. This doesn't have anything to do with his part ownership of MTI but more likely some kind of acquisition and/or option awarded to Mr. Mackintosh (or, rather, his production company) for grand rights. This has happened with other musicals. It might be odd but it's not unheard of.

Very recently he bought out whoever had the rest and became the majority shareholder. There was a big story about it on BWW. And yes, I'm aware it's not unheard of (Godspell is one other such case, belonging to both MTI and Theatre Maximus), but I was curious as to whether or not there might be issues with Tams over it.

I really like the orchestrations in this revised version but there are some cuts on the 2009 cast album that I hope were just cut from the recording and not actually missing from the score. The strangest one was the removal of the opening verse of "You've Got to Pick a Pocket or Two."

Well, it looks like MTI has taken the rights from Tams and the 2009 version is the only version
