The AVENUE Q - Original Cast Album is here!

Listening to it has only reaffirmed my feelings that this is the smartest, sharpest, and most cheerfully unsentimental and HONEST original score to be heard on Broadway in many years. I haven't enjoyed an Original Cast album so much since HAIRSPRAY and WHEN PIGS FLY.

not too long ago, I was on the N train going downtown (I live in the east village) and who was on my train on the way to his saturday matinee? mr. tartaglia. MUCH younger looking than the pictures i've seen of him.

BroadwayGuy, you know who you remind me of? Countess Valentine (played by Myrna Loy) in LOVE ME TONIGHT. Someone remarks to her: "Men, men, men! Don't you ever think of ANYTHING else?" "Certainly!" she replies. "SCHOOLBOYS!"

John Tartaglia is very cute in person. Not only that, but he makes it very easy to develop crushes on his puppets as well. I met him after a performance, and he was nothing but sweet (and adorable).

I can't wait to purchase the CD. I've had the songs stuck in my head since I saw the show. Of course, I think listening to them daily is only going to increase my chances of blurting out "everyone's a little bit racist" at the wrong time!

Ummmm... CHARACTER VOICES... they are using them. There is a point. They work with puppets..... they are there for a reason

Well.... um, that was kinda what they were going for and if you saw them in the show or read a synopsis you'd get that and see it differently. They are songs in a musical.. they are a part of the plot.. natural some or most won't come off as well unless they are in context.

well.. aren't you nice.. You don't want the show to win because you don't like the cast recording.. because, of course, that is what the Tonys are awards based on. Do yourself a favor and see the show before you say that, okay..

You just have to understand the premise of the show and teh storyline for it to be good.

Topical sketch revues were a Broadway staple in the 1930s. It's nice to see at least one back on Broadway.

It's a great show--extremely entertaining and quite a commentary on our society--education through laughter. I have never heard an audience laugh so hard during a performance.

The performers and show definitely deserve nominations and awards come awards season.

"TOPICAL SKETCH REVUES WERE A STAPLE of BROADWAY IN THE 1930'S"

True, Master--but those shows had stars of the caliber of Fred Astaire, Beatrice Lillie, and Clifton Webb with scores by the likes of Schwartz and Dietz, a chorus of 40 and a ticket price that didn't equal the GNP of a small country.
In short, though I may have appreciated the show, I expect more for my BROADWAY dollar.

No show seems to achieve universal favor on these boards, and that's to be expected. I'd have to quibble with the opinion though that Avenue Q "has no business being on Broadway". It's my opinion that having Avenue Q around is a lot healthier for Broadway than the latest musical adaptation of a movie or revival of some old warhorse. I'd be willing to bet that the median age of the audience at Avenue Q is a lot lower than the usual 50-60-70 year old greying demographic. It's an original work by two very bright young authors, another reason to be happy. The company is wildly talented. If you don't dig it, that's fine, but to say it has no business being on Broadway? I hearby sentence you to a Broadway theatre district with Thoroughly Modern Millie playing in every house.

Definition of HYPHEN: "A sign indicating a compound or two words which are to be read as one." Hence, 'double-click' is one word. I stand by my original tally, Amy Archer.

In fact, it doesn't. Nor do I equate a love of knowledge with the movement (or lack thereof) of my bowels. But, hey, whatever lifts your skirt...
