I still wish Julia Murney had been tapped for Morticia, but Bebe is a great choice.
Dear Raul Esparza,
Please play Gomez.
Love Me.
Perrfecto, right??? LOL!
I stand 1000 per cent behind my sweetest Norbert, who was soooo unceremoniously forgotton this season in one of the funniest pieces ever!! HE'S DEAD. Norbert, you're ITT!!!!!!!! You're a comic genius in the milieu of Keaton, Chaplin,...nuff said. Next show?????? Somebody, anybody, Steve Sondheim, write this man a show, for christ's sakes!! He's a 2nd Nat'l Treasure.

Am I crazy or could Laura Benanti pull off Morticia?
Naww.. Bebe is the best choice. So glad to hear this will be on Broadway. Please let the score and book be good...

Cher as Morticia is tempting!
No Heathhurr she could not.
And you might just be crazy.
Benanti is a beauty and talented but so wrong for this role.
I do love the idea of CHER though.

Yep, I am crazy, but I knew that one already.
I think someone else in some other Addams Family thread might have mentioned Benanti and, because I have a huge-ass crush on her, it stuck in my head. Haha... oh well.
LoL!
I'm TOTALLY honored to even have been considered, tiny!
Unfortunately, I'm nowhere near 'rotund enough' to play the role. I'll be 22 by the time this puppy takes to the stage.
...Stranger things have happened.
well, you could always wear a "fat suit". Audition, audition!
Wow, what's the point of getting all cranky about Lane? I love his acting but I agree he should consider "Catch me.." instead. Why? First, he has a choice. Then physical work. I am sure he can pull off the acting and singing with no trouble at all. What will be missing is Gomez's amazing dancing. It's not personal. John Astin and Raul Julia did amazing jobs. Some of us just prefer different Actors in the role.
That doesn't mean anything mean against Nathan Lane. I agree that Harvey would make a very funny Fester, so would Nathan for that matter.
Cher would have been great too. She definitely has the look down and I enjoy her singing as strange as that might mean to some of you. I'm fine with Bebe. Cher's doing fine in Vegas.
I love the Charles Adams cartoons. He began drawing them as a teenager. He did not cast John Astin or Raul Julia in the series/movies based on his works. As interesting as these performances were - and they were delicious - they are the creation of TV and film producers who lowest common denominator-ized the character. "Name Gomez? Must be Hispanic. They all dance, don't they? Wouldn't it be funny if he wanted to TANGO!!!? Ole!"
Look at the New Yorker cartoons: Gomez was short round man with maddness in his eyes. Look at Max Bialystok in "Betrayed" and put on the black rings around the eyes. The casting could not be more spot-on.
And we would be lucky to see Nathan Lane, one of the drollest of comedians in what he could make into the role of a lifetime.
This is a comedy first and a musical second, by nature of the source material. Bebe and Nathan had me at "Good eeeeevening..."
Nathan said on Siruis radio today that he is doing Catch me...
So I guess they will have to find someone else.

Okay, me too!^^ I'm now dreaming of a new Movie version with RDJr. in it! He's all tied up with all of that Ironman stuff. Definitely will be a sequel and he will make Ironman appearances in other Marvel Movies. He was in The Hulk Movie my son just told me.
Too bad!

I'm old enough to remember some of those old Addam's Family Comics in the papers. Probably reprints but I do understand what some of you are thinking when referring to the creator's version of Gomez.
Now that Lane has made his choice, I'll be rooting for someone who can,"shake a leg", that isn't canine. Ethnicity isn't a big deal to me? I just enjoy those crazy stunts they put into the Movies with Gomez and add Fester too! I like dancing in Musicals? ;p

With all due respect folks i have to side with Nathan Lane.
Who sais Gomez MUST be suave and smarmy? John Astin was anything but those things and he was terrific.
In the series The New Addams Family Gomez was still a loveable goof.
That is why The Addams Family has become iconical where the Ray Bradbury story wich partialy inspired them (The Homecomming) has languished, they are loveable when done with good humor, and just a diversion when done more strait.
I would very much like to see him do it, as for the satelite radio comments about his involvment in 'Catch Me If You Can' i know that that was a rebroadcast of a 'Studio A' show he did previousely, a lot can happen in a few days or weeks.
Bebe Neuwrith would be a good Morticia, i can certainly see that - after the Ice Princess Lilith Sternin it would be a logical next step.
