I thought Murney would get cast simply because of her connection/friendship to Lippa. Neuwirth is just...so perfect for this role. It's one of the few roles than even when people suggested Donna Murphy, it was Neuwirth the one I kept championing for. Glad to see she is interested in coming back to the stage.
I agree with you, Ljay, it's going to be so exciting to see her back in a new musical with a new score on Broadway.
Has she ever opened a new musical on Broadway? I don't think so.

This should be intresting.
This isn't anywhere close to 'new news' but I'm thankful word's finally getting out. I have plot details and further casting, but I don't wanna spoil anything.
... STAY TUNED!

Has Wednesday been cast yet?

LimelightMike, you are such a tease!
I LOVE Bebe for this role. Nathan Lane, not so much but it might work. I can't wait to see what happens.
Would Harvey Fierstein shave his head and do Uncle Festus?
Or he could wear a bald cap. I like that idea!
Yes, Lane looks like the original drawings. Its Raul Julia and John Astin who are unlikely Gomez's
I REALLY hope this does end up trying out in Chicago. I am really excited for this show.
"I can not wait to see who they get to play Wednesday"
If they cast anyone other than Madeleine Martin as Wednesday, I will be be extremely upset. That would be perfect casting.
I want Allison Fischer for the girl.
"The little girl from August: Osage County, whose name escapes me, would make a great Wednesday, but I don't know if she sings."
I don't know if it's dubbing, but on Californication, Madeleine Martin sings in a teenage rock band.
I hate to throw cold water on all of you, but Nathan Lane would be crazy to forego CATCH ME IF YOU CAN to do Addams Family. The Catch Me if You Can Demo has one of the BEST musical theatre scores I have heard in years. with Jack O'Brien as director, chances are that CATCH ME could be a mega-huge hit.
Andrew Lippa has yet to write a big hit musical. Also, Bebe Neuwirth has had vocal problems in recent years. When I last saw her in concert, she sounded like Katherine Hepburn in Coco.
Nathan would be making a big mistake to forego CATCH ME for Addams Family.
Bebe perfect casting !!! Lane as Gomez--- eh.... NO !!!
Martin would be SOOOO perfect !!!

I am terrified that that annoying Kelsey Fowler will be cast as Wednesday.
Someone's jealous. How is Kelsey Fowler annoying? She was great in Grey Gardens & Sunday.
And plus she is from the town next to me..

Actually, I loved her the first time I saw her in GG, but then the second time I saw it, she had become very hammy. And she was still very hammy when I saw her in SUNDAY.
An opinion on someone's performance style doesn't make a person jealous. That's quite a leap.

Matthew Gumley would be such a good Pugsley! And Mary Beth Peil should definately be Granny!!!

who the hell are you and what exactly have you done in the theatre to judge nathan lane? lane has been a professional for 33 years, 26 of those he has spent on and off broadway. he has won every award there is to win in the new york theatre, as well as the olivier award in london. he has originated roles in the works of jon robin baitz, terrence mcnally, simon gray, neil simon, and david mamet. he is a consummate actor, respected by his peers.and he is one of a small group of old-fashioned broadway stars who can actually put people in the seats. and what have you been up to? as a matter of fact, the role of gomez was written with him in mind by marshall brickman. why don't you wait until the show is actually on before you judge someone.
someone needs to go beddy-bye...
Maybe, but flahooley is absolutely correct.
Lane is probably Broadway's greatest actor who can do classical and modern straight plays and musicals.
His dry deliveries and musical talent would put either CATCH ME... or THE ADAMS FAMILY... on a new level.
I would rather see him in anything other than the one note Bebe.
It's the script of ADAMS that worries me, the writers are hardly proven in Musical Theatre.

There was a thread not too long ago, where casting for this show was discussed...my casting for Gomez had been Raul Esparza, Robert Downey, Jr (not likely to do it), and Matthew Broderick.
But the first one that came to my mind was Broderick...must have been a connection thing :)
It will be interesting to see who they cast as Fester, though...
Morticia: Bebe Neuwirth, or CHER
Gomez: Tony Shaloub or Tim Curry (my pick) or Raul Esparza
Uncle Fester: Norbert Leo Butz, or Rudi Guiliani (he's got the lisp)
Wednesday: Alison Pill, or Amy Winehouse (if still alive)
Lurch: Tommy Tune, or Arnie Schwarzenegger
Pugsley: LimeLightMike, or Cubby Bernstein
