I saw The Addams Family national tour at the Straz Center last Friday night. I never saw the show in New York, however my dad and sister did. They enjoyed it, but said it was nothing special. So I went into the show not expecting too much, and came away LOVING IT!

The cast really made the show for me. Sara Gettelfinger was a stand out as Morticia, having incredible vocal chops, comedic timing, and dancing. Same goes for Douglas Sills as Gomez. Other standouts include Cortney Wolfson as Wednesday, Crista Moore as Alice, and Tim Corbeil as Lurch. I thought the ensemble was amazing as well, particularly the Female Ancestors - "Secrets" (one of the new songs added) was a definite highlight. Other favorite songs were "When You're An Addams", "One Normal Night", "Full Disclosure", and "Just Around the Corner". The whole cast brought an incredible energy to the evening.

For a show that was as panned as The Addams Family, I found the book and score to be incredibly clever. It moved at a fast pace, and I did not once find myself zoning out. I also love how that got to the story about Wednesday being in love right away.

I definitely recommend seeing the tour. Like I said, I can't comment on the changes between this production and Broadway, but the production on the road definitely pleasantly surprised me!

It's hard to compare it to the Broadway show, since there was some serious adding and cutting to the tour. Apparently it is a much better show.

Glad you enjoyed it!

The actors playing Gomez and Morticia MADE the show for me. They were both SO good in the roles.

Kind of random that they cut "Where Did We Wrong?" and "Morticia."

There are far worse songs in that score.

Just realized that, lol. That definitely needed to go. But "The Moon and Me" is hardly much better.

I agree, "The Moon and Me" was pretty cheesey, but but Blake Hammond made it work. I really wish I had seen the show in New York so I could judge the changes made. After the show I told my sister "Secrets" was one of my favorite songs, not realizing that it was new for the tour. I'm interested to hear what people who have seen both versions would think.

They cut "Let's not talk about anything else but love" and its reprise? Wow grandma really has NOTHING to do anymore.

"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel

When I saw it (way back in it's Chicago try out) "the Moon and Me" was absolutely the hit of the show. You don't cut the one song everyone goes nuts for even if it's peripheral to the plot.

Is "But Love" "Let's Not Talk About Anything Else But Love?" Looks like an addition to the show. Didn't they say they would tweek for a while?

I don't understand the "supporters" of "The Moon and Me".. I've seen the show three times and it never got the response people on this board claim it does. People loved the opener and Pulled.

It was a shame Lurch and Grandmama did not have more to do song wise. Would love to see how this version compares to the original.

After listening to the opener on THAT site, Lurch doesn't even have the "Urrghh" during 'You do what Addams do or - Urrghh - die!"
