I know it is super last minute, but does anyone know who is on tonight in The Band's Visit? I am curious if Rachel is still in Iceland.

Rachel is on vacation all of this week. If you don't know about her, you wouldn't even notice a difference as her role is very minor.

Thank you so much! The whole cast, besides Rachel, was there!

Saw it again tonight. I saw it originally right after it opened on Broadway. Was initially disappointed that tonight Lenk (and ARI’EL STACHEL) we’re out but their understudies were great. (I didn’t get the slip wit their names and couldn’t locate them in playbill). Still cried (twice) like a baby toward end. So glad I saw it again before it closed.
Update: After seeing 7 shows last week, I can my second visit to TBV was my favorite of the week, followed very closely by Fiddler.

Did you see another musical called The Band's Visit? The one playing on Broadway does not have an Act 2!

Does anyone know if Katrina and Ari’el are supposed to be in for the rest of the week??
I really want to surprise my husband on Valentines Day for our third trip to Bet Hatikva. Would be just crushed if either were out!!! ![]()

Thanks for catching that. I was really tired when I posted the above and had had maybe a couple of cocktails. I’ve fixed it!

I wouldn’t let Lenk and Ari’el being out dissuade you from going. My seatmate (who I didn’t know) got the slip of who was performing and I did not so he told me Lenk was out. I didn’t know Ari’el was out until show began. I was initially disappointed as I usually am when I find out I’m seeing an understudy in a principal role. but as usual the understudies wowed me when I put expectations to the side.
BTW, I found Lenk’s understudy’s name: Sharone Sayegh. She brings perhaps less elegance to Dina, but brings an earthiness and sadness to her that I think makes sense. And I cried like a baby when she and Tewfiq say goodbye which is testament to the chemistry between Sayegh and Gabay.
I think Ahmad Maksoud was in for Ar’iel? I’m trying to locate him in the pictures in my playbill because in the cast listings, it just says “Understudy.” I assume because the understudies cover multiple roles. I took a minute to get used to him because he brings a bit more humor to Haled, but I ended up loving his portrayal.
I do not regret at all my second visit to Bet Hatikva (with a B!). I caught things I hadn’t caught before. Last time I saw it from Row B Center Orchestra and loved it, but caught things from my seat this time (Right Orchestra N2) that either couldn’t see or don’t remember seeing last time. Plus just nuances and themes spoke more loudly to me this time.

Saw this again last night after seeing it in late 2017 and I think it got better with age.
It could also be that although Shalhoub is good, Gabay just brings so much more soul to the part than Shalhoub did.
It could also be that the 6th row center seats we had for $65 thanks to the discount mentioned here in November made the show that much more enjoyable than the rear/side orchestra seats we had for more money the first time around!

I have a random question about TBV so I didn't want to start a new thread.
Lately there is a tourism commercial on television for the country of Israel. The music in the commercial is the song Sunny that is also used in TBV at the skating rink.
Several of us have been wondering if this is just coincidence or if there is some significance to the song in relation to Israel.
