The Bodyguard to receive a cast recording — Page 2

I'm not dying to hear them. I was excited. Relax.

Saw this in London with HH, had heard so many great things about her, this to me was a major let down.

It's a bit sterile, but it's okay. It's slightly altered for the songs to be less "stagey" and more independent stand-alone songs (i.e. no drunk girls on I Have Nothing, and Nikki doesn't sing in I Have Nothing or Greatest Love of All).

The biggest crime, of course, is the new music and dance arrangements of Queen of the Night. The fantastically camp Mozart Queen of the Night coloratura was removed and replaced with something hideous.

Absolutely no dialogue bits at all, which is weird because there is so much incidental music, which you'd think would be accompanied by some dialogue to give them some context. Why do I have a feeling that these are pre-recorded tracks they are using for the live version that they've decided to include since they have been already recorded. It just feels like a bad cross between soundtrack and cast recording, which is produced by someone who doesn't seem to have great experience in the latter.

For a full cast recording, my preference would have been Heather Headley, who was just outstanding in the role and actually has experience and ability in doing a cast recording and getting a character from the stage to the studio.

I just hope that the subsequent German, Dutch and US tour productions will get their own cast recordings and do a better job.
