Oh I did the same thing! I couldn't make it to his earlier show so I went to the later one and within seconds of being there I was so mad that I hadn't gone to both. I took some pictures but they were so dark they didn't even really come out, they look awful.

The CD signing I have pictures from, I also have two from the chatterbox thing. I only have two that came out well from his cabaret, but its two more than nothing.

Ohhhh that's awesome. I treasure my Taboo pictures and my Euan at other things pictures. Don't feel weird for having it framed, I have a pic of him framed in my room that I...um...took at Taboo and probably was not technically allowed to take it as the announcements say you can't...right

Closing night was great! Well, sad, but you know what I mean.

I can't even use the popular teenage thing as my excuse!

Well I can because I was a teenager then, although then my birthday came so technically I'm not a teenager anymore. Still, though, it was a great experience, so was the matinee that day.

I actually really enjoyed his singing "The Impossible Dream" I mean really, he sings every song like that so I didn't think anything of it.

I don't get offended...well, I just don't really get offended ever. Actually, I was shocked he didn't get up there totally plastered.

I suppose it didn't bother me because my personality isn't like that. Really he wasn't saying anything that other people don't say. I've heard people talk about musicals like that 100 times over, about how stupid they seem because people randomly burst into song. And really, in a way he was right, the concept from afar sounds pretty stupid. Then when he said that what happened with him was he found one that he felt it was appropriate, or that it clicked with him, that's when he changed his mind. I don't remember his exact wording but that is what happens. People can bad mouth musicals all they want but when it clicks with you, then it just does. I actually gave him credit for admitting that he really didn't start off liking them. He could have very easily said "Oh I loved them forever" but he didn't, he told the truth.

Really, in Scotland I'm sure there isn't the same exposure to them as there is here, so to him it is quite possible Bette Midler did represent what his conception of musicals was at the time. Again, I don't know that for a fact, but really to me it doesn't matter how someone got into musicals. Let it be Dancer in the Dark, I don't care as long as it got him into it eventually. I didn't take it to be that he was saying it as if he were an expert as much as he was saying that to him that was what he felt was how it should be.

When it comes to his remarks about Dick Latessa (whose name he actually didn't say until it was prompted to him) I can't really say much because I would probably be as easy to say something like that as well about someone. I might not say it in an interview but generally speaking I don't care when someone else says it because odds are a lot of people are thinking the same thing anyway.

Again, my remarks here are not as a means of defending his actions in any way. I don't know him outside of what we all see when he's making appearences and things. I just figured I would offer my spin on what you found as offensive because I respect that, and I thought it should be explained why I did not find it to be that way.

I never knew he was controversial until now. I don't think he is, I think he just says what he thinks.

You're exactly right, which is why I don't get offended by things. People are always going to mentally spin what someone says based on their own personal reactions to it.
