Anybody know the status of this musical??? I remember them saying for it to come to Broadway in Fall of 2005...
It will likely open in 2005. I can't wait. "The Color Purple" is one of my top ten favorite books and movies ever!

I am so excited that there is a new show by my favorite composers. Those Lucky Ragtime Seussical composers are so fabulous!
I really hope this is good, and actually makes it to Broadway - it's one of my favorite movies ever.

Judging by what I saw at the premier in Atlanta in the fall, it's got a LOOOOOONG way to go before they bring it in...or, on the flip side, I hope they dont bring it in without doing some MAJOR work.
i heard it was doing incredibly down there. its already made its initial investment back in atlanta. a friend of mine saw it and called it "it wasnt just a good show, it was an awesome experience" just like the film.
With the story, I'm sure they can make it into an affective musical. And with the talent they've got in the cast, they've certainly got the performers to pull it off. It's just a matter of whether or not the director and writers can pull together a meaningful and provoking show. I really hope they do. It's an incredible piece of literature, and deserves an incredible stage adaptation.
How I wish I could see LaChanze in Dessa Rose... I'm crying...

perhaps i was in the minority about the production in Atlanta. i thought there were moments that were breathtaking, but just as many that were predictable and out of place....it was a first rate production of a very messy musical.
BoxOfficeJon, I don't think Ahrens and Flaherty are behind this production. You got my hopes up!
