And you're associated with the recording how, Nick?

The remixing makes the original songs sound so stifled. It's like there's a (trumpet's) cup-mute over the entire thing....then it magically becomes clear when the new things pop in.
It's very weird.

Totally disagree. The new album sounds amazing. The old
one sounded pretty lousy in terms of mix, reverb, etc.

I honestly think the new recording is fantastic. I would have paid full price just for The Girl Who Had Everything and the reprise!
The background "appearance" of cast members from the Off-Bway cast on the Bway recording could also be due to contractual obligations. While I obviously don't know the details and am merely speculating, I do know that there are certain rights of first refusal that are granted to all original cast member where all future recordings/Bway transfers are concerned. Depending on the terms of each off-bway actor's contract, it may have been prohibitively expensive to buy all of them out, and so, they stil "appear" on the "new" recording of the show, but not really. Thus fulfilling past contractual obligations while also enabling the records producer to have a "new" recording. But again, this is mere speculation...based on a few of my own contracts...
I think it's more along the lines of them having sung in ensemble numbers that were not rerecorded. end of story.

Okay, changed my mind....it's a great CD.

Hehe.
I really like the new cd, if only to hear Erin Davie. It's worth the price of the cd to hear her sing Mother, Darling and Daddy's Girl.

Is little Kelsey Fowler even on this recording? I can't hear her at all. That is tragic.
ETA: I just got to "Marry Well" and I hear her. Good. I heard she was so excited to be on the recording; it would have been a shame if one couldn't hear her.
I ordered mine.
The damn CD is in the apartment complex office because the stupid mail person didn't put it in my box. Why, I have no idea. It must be "too big" for my slot.
Anyway, how does "Peas in a Pod" sound?
I'm most excited to hear that re-do and the supposed new orchestrations in Hominy Grits!!!
Anyone have the MP3 of the new "Peas in a Pod"?
I'm nervous the office will be closed until Tuesday due to the Holiday. Ugh. My luck!
Peas in a Pod is the best of the new tracks. It really is a great CD. Sounds nice and old fashioned. Epstien did a masterful job remastering. (That sounded weird, didn't it?)
Having thoroughly listened to (and enjoyed) both editions, I do miss the songs "Body Beautiful Beale" (which has a nice 1930s's sound to it) and "Better Fall Out of Love" (the Robert Ginzler-style orchestration is a delight.) It's too bad these could not have been added to the 2nd edition as bonus tracks, since years from now they will not be available to future buyers.
I do not get what people mean about issues with the sound quality. I listened to both side by side to compare tracks and found no appreciable difference. I suspect some people here are getting poor quality bootleg copies/downloads and assuming those are exactly how the commercially released Cd's sound.
One curiosity: PS Classics has used the same catalogue number: PS 642 for BOTH editions. This is wrong and misleading. When a recording s changed and re-released it should be given a totally new catalogue number.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
