I was thinking about seeing one of these two shows. Anyone seen them? Thoughts?
I saw The Donkey Show three years ago or so, and I was not impressed. The show part is tough to see and understand. It's going on all around the club, and a lot of people there aren't paying that much attention to it, anyway. My experience there was also soured, however, by some nasty meathead frat-boy types who were making comments to my ex and I all night. So maybe I would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't for that.
Really, if you're just looking for a chance to dance to some disco music and get some overpriced drinks while a very thin show is acted out around you, go and have fun. I think it would be better if you were in a group, and not there as a couple, like me. It's cheap as it is, and discount tickets are not hard to come by (at least, they weren't three years ago, and I can't imagine it's changed much since then).
Can't help you with 80s Prom.

I had the same impression of Donkey Show. Completely unintellgible, badly performed and written and wholly forgettable, it was a waste of money.
I actually saw The Donkey Show and had fun. But if you're even a tiny bit shy it's not the show for you.

donkey show=horrible nothing with disco music. it would've been nice if the actors at least SANG the songs...but they lipsynched over the disco tracks..it was a bad version of a karaoke party in a club where u follow nothing of a story...
80s prom..alot of nothing too. just unintelligable ranting...
similar to birdys bachelorette party...screaming bachelorettes for 2 hours in a club..alot of nothing..way overpriced and expensive drinks...crazy crazy crazy nonsense.
Hmmm...
We were just looking for a fun time while we're in town next week and both shows had some good write-ups, but I just wanted to check with real audiences first. Something other than hanging out at a gay dance club with thumpa-thumpa house music or a showtune singalong where only 6 people show up and all sing their dirty lyrics to Hello Dolly over each other. I really wish De La Guarda was still running. That was one of my favorite evenings of entertainment ever.
Calvin - I believe we met in Houston before, but I can't remember where. I think we have a friend in common. It's driving me nuts.
I wish I could find what I posted about The Donkey Show, but it seems to have disappeared, or maybe I didn't actually post it here, but rather in my blog or something. Anyway... it was... interesting. The actors couldn't sing, and you couldn't understand what they were saying because they were singing along to tracks. They made great use of the space, but the story was almost indistinguishable; I had almost no idea what was going on, even though I did know the basic plotline to A Midsummer Night's Dream. What I have to say has pretty much already been said, and I vote for skipping it as well.
