' "How exactly is this role out of his comfort zone?" '
"Because we're so used to seeing him play more comedic roles."
I think of Bradley Cooper in his two wonderful Oscar nominated performances in both 2013 and 2014, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle.

Posted: 11/10/14 at 8:03pmI 100% agree with you JPeterman! Those movies were so brilliant and breathtaking. Those performances brought me to shelling out full price to seeing this (even though I love the Hangover also, guilty as charged)!

Yes, as a matter of fact I did find it to be brilliant. I thought that the fantastic acting, depth of the storyline, and the bold direction to translate into a brilliant movie. It was my favorite movie that came out last year, and I even saw it twice in theatres.
P.S. My top ten last year was:
10. The Place Beyond the Pines
9.Captain Phillips
8. Dallas Buyers Club
7. Gravity
6. Saving Mr. Banks
5. Prisoners
4. Phillomena
3. Twelve Years a Slave
2. The Wolf of Wall Street
1. American Hustle

I can't think of American Hustle with out the female performances who totally eclipsed any of the men in my opinion. I was a fan of the film, but mainly for Amy Adams and JLaw.
I saw this on Saturday night. Great view from one of the$79 tickets if you can get one. (It seems they have lowered the ticket price for some performances.)
I think I was a bigger fan of the production itself than Bradley Cooper, but I thought Cooper handled the role well. His Physicality is astonishing. It was a treat to see Patricia Clarkson onstage, and while I wished she had a bigger part I thought she was excellent, and a highlight for me.
I agree with Whizzer regarding act 1. The first 50 minutes feel like 20. The show moves at an incredible pace, even act 2 kept things brisk, and I really appreciated it. The physical production is attractive and well done, doing a lot with a little.
Overall, I think this should do well. Cooper and Clarkson are giving solid performances, and its a great production. It isn't quite my favorite of the season, as there have been so many good plays, but it is another solid entry for sure.
