I hate to say I'm a bit leery of this, between the Flaming Lips lo-tech stage extravaganzas, and Des "Not Enough" throwing technology at the process, I'm a bit worried that something might be lost in the process.

On another note, rather than keeping it a musical based upon the one concept album (And all of their albums from soft bulliten have been as such) which I feel could be a strong one act piece, I worry that they'll make it a less than stellar jukebox based upon their entire catalog.

Nonetheless, I will be the first in line to see it when it opens!

The one show everyone on Broadway is waiting to see: Twyla Tharp presents: Big Bottom - The Spinal Tap Jukebox musical!

OK, I am having an amazing day! Between Bruce Hornsby and this, I am elated! I love Sorkin, I think he's a genius and this album has the cpacity to cross over like Tommy. So excited!

I adore The Flaming Lips. I love this album. I like Aaron Sorkin. But I can't even begin to imagine a Broadway show based on it ... sounds like it could either be ridiculous in a wonderful way, or, more than likely, really god-awful.

The album is good, but...as others have said, this sounds either really awesome or completely disastrous. I'm sort of skeptical that it'll come to fruition, though. Wasn't there supposed to be a Broadway production of Pink Floyd's The Wall, among other rock concept musicals that nothing really came of?

Most rock concept albums work as albums but really struggle as conventional narrative works. Honestly, aside from midnight screenings when you're high, can you honestly say that you enjoy watching The Wall or Quadraphenia or even Tommy? Sorkin and McAnuff are the sort of team that could make this work, but I wonder whether it will actually ever happen.

The Wall has been in "Development" for years, mostly it's just Roger Waters masturbating to his ego. Just like Kilroy Was Here, was supposedly coming to broadway as well.

I love the Lips, I do. Maybe they are just obscure enough for people to get past the whole juke box feel, of course then again, maybe they're TOO obscure. Either way it will be interesting to see unfold. Oh and I wanna go on record to say I hope Sorkin writes the entire thing while tripping balls on Shrooms. Might make it more interesting then Studio 60...

Kilroy Was Here only just barely worked as a concert in the early 80s. It would be totally out of its league in a full Broadway staging. Can you imagine Mr. Roboto on the stage of the St. James, for example? Eek.

On the other hand, what Dennis DeYoung wrote for his Hunchback musical wasn't too bad. It's unfortunate nothing ever came of that.

Alright first off, Wayne Coyne is a genius, and "Yoshimi..." is a fantastic album. If you don't know The Flaming Lips you should. Then you throw in one of the most talented writers in the world in Sorkin, and finish it off with a fantastic director in McAnuff, and I trust the talent. Though it is unconventional material, if anyone could pull it off it's this group.

With this and news that "The Farnsworth Invention" may transfer, and I am an incredibly happy guy.

I'm in shock. I love this album so much!!! Trying NOT to imagine it on Broadway...

I trust Sorkin and McAnuff... if anyone can make something out of this taht's going to be in the spirit of the album, it's them! It certainly won't be Jersey Boys but uh... yay? :p (I'm kidding, don't blow a fuse!)

Anyway, I'd love to see what they come up with!

WOW! I've never really listened to The Flaming Lips, but this is going to be extremely fresh. There's gonna be this, and Tales of the City, which is the music from one of the Scissor Sisters. Broadway is going to be bright, fresh, and fantastic.
