In the article about them reshowing Cheno's preformance with the Pops, it says "The Girl in 14G" was cut from Throughly Modern Millie, Woah... thats new...

I saw Cheno do that number in Chicago at the opening of Millinium Park - very funny.

I thought they wrote it for her. I know she was attached to Millie for a while, but I didn't think the song and the show had any relation.

It was written for her, not Millie as per the Official Millie Site:

"Ms. Tesori was commissioned by Sony Classical to write “The Girl in 14G” for Kristin Chenoweth’s debut CD, Let Yourself Go, and she also wrote the theme song to Ms. Chenoweth’s NBC/Paramount sitcom, “Kristin.” "

I'm with BobbyBubby. I thought that it was indeed written for her as an independent piece.

It could make sense, but it would stop the action completely.

'but it would stop the action completely.'

So it would have been like every other moment in the show?

I know...I'm bad...

Yeah, and I missed Joe Layton's 'Tapioca' number as well. Also, you cannot beat Bea Lilly either. "Shoo-Sho"

OHMYGOD the movie is, like, my favorite!...lol...but honestly - the play was just lame compared the comic elements of the film. Tapioca is a wonderful number and I wonder why they cut it - and why change Muzzy so much? let her sing Do it Again and Jazz Baby fer chrissakes - much better than the songs she sang in the play!

"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

I agree redhotinnyc2! When they first announced that they were turning it into a stage show I got SO excited. Then I saw it and I was rather dissapointed. I would have loved to have seen Sheryl Lee Ralph play Carol's Muzzie! That would have been fabulous! I just thought that the treatment of the stage show was extremely weak compared to the film.

I actually think the stage show was 5,458,454,897 times better than the movie... The Girl in 14G was not part of TMM. They just wrote it for KC. It was never in TMM.

Aw I would've loved to see this song in the show, I can just imagine sutton belting out "I've had my fill of peace and quiet, shout out loud i've changed my diet, all because of 14G!!" hehe

I don't know if Sutton has the head voice. Does she? The music is in a very similar style to "Millie." More of what I consider the Tesori style. She hasn't really written enough to have a style yet, but whatever.

Tesori writes for what the piece requires. She is SO versatile, and is very comfortable in different styles. Much like Ahren's/Flaherty, Guettel, and Sondheim (and others)... there are like tiny hints that I can't explain that differentiate her from others..
Again, I can't explain.

But YAY Tesori! From kind of heavy Violet, to very light, easy breezy Millie, to DARK and DEEP Caroline.. she's got talent.

Personally, I think I have too much bloom.

Where did "Violet" play? It wasn't on Broadway, was it?

Zoran,
Violet played at Playwrights Horizons about two years ago.
It was wonderful. Norbert Leo Butz was in it.
It moved me. I thought it was even better then Millie.
A gorgeous score, Jeanine Tesori's best work so far.
I loved Caroline but Violet moved me.
I love all of her work.
