Sorry, I know this should be on the student board and it was for like 3 days and nobody answered because I know not a lot of people visit that board, so I will ask here. I heard about this school, and saw that it was around since 1890!!! I was wondering if anyone has gone there, or has heard anything about it. I was thinking about auditioning but I was looking for some thoughts on the school. Thanks.
a lot of good things about this school - some great teachers, a decent connecticut location, connections to all kinds of gigs - some bad are that the teachers vary; you have to try them on for size, and remember that each one is different. these are all things that i know from friends who have gone there. but overall, it is a good institution. plus, hartford is getting bigger and better each year, so soon it will actually be a city. (or something like that)

I assume you do not mean the Hartt School (formerly the Hartt School of Music).
Hartford theater itself has improved each year in the past decade +. The Hartford Stage, TheaterWorks, The Bushnell for road shows...there is actually a nice sampling of work here.
I work in Hartford and live nearby. It's being touted as "New England's Rising Star". IMHO, it has a long way to go, even though there are a few signs of improvement. The best thing to me about it is - it's only a 2 hr. drive to NYC!
Thanks so much. I live in NYC, but I want to try out for as many schools as I can.
mark planner--on the staff of hartt in the theater dept. is one of the best voice teachers EVER! he has taught in NYC for many years and was a student of legendary teacher paul gavert. he is superb as a teacher of actors who sing. cannot say enough great things about him.
