Here are a few of my favorite Irving Berlin songs:
Let's Face the Music and Dance
Isn't This a Lovely Day?
I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm
How Deep is the Ocean?
Change Partners
Cheek to Cheek
I used to listen to a double CD set of Fred Astaire recordings all the time. (Yes, Fred Astaire! He didn't JUST dance, you know!) For some reason, I just love the way Mr. Astaire interpreted Berlin.

What a funny coincidence: on Monday a friend and I had a very drunken dinner concluded by us singing our favorite Irving Berlin songs to each other.
"What'll I do..."

Posted: 9/21/06 at 12:09am"What'll I Do?" is such a beautiful song. I discovered it just recently when Meryl Streep and Garrison Keillor sang it on the Great Performances Prairie Home Companion and I fell in love. That song just haunted me.

"What'll I Do" is a favorite of mine.
I first heard it on the episode of Golden Girls where Dorothy sings it in the Rusty Anchor.
Alison Krauss sings a BEAUTIFUL rendition of it on the Mona Lisa Smile soundtrack.

pennywise, I think I have that same Fred Astaire collection! Is it a sepia cover of him in top hat and tails? I bought it waaaaaaaay back in high school (CD's were kinda new - aging me, I know!) and I love it still.
I am bummed that it appears White Christmas is not returning to SF this season, so no Blue Skies for me in December.
Nice to see this thread reappear though!

Once more I also thoroughly recommend the "Unsung Irving Berlin" cds. Great songs, many of whose hardly anyone knows
(including my favorite Irving Berlin song
)
