Posted: 7/13/12 at 8:58pmWell, the Neil Simon is open and who knows how long Ghost will last. It could go right into the Simon or it could be going later in the season into the Lunt-Fontanne. (Someone awhile back had said it was the Lunt. Not sure if that's true.)

Posted: 7/13/12 at 9:10pmThe set looks hideous from the Seattle production.

Posted: 7/13/12 at 9:12pmIt got mixed reviews in Seattle. Everything about it scares me.

Every critic in the Universe praised her?
She must have done real good.
What's the word, is Carolee coming in with it?

Kathie Lee is quite close with Carmello, so I don't see why she wouldn't do it.
Lee often praises her on national TV.

Kathie Lee acts drunk a lot on TV.
They will be Lucky if Carmello does it, she's choice.
I hope the material is worthy of her, the songs I've heard are quite generic sounding. They should go for a smaller house than the LUNT.

Posted: 7/14/12 at 9:40amCarolee Carmello is an actress who likes to work. She has spoken publicly numerous times about the fact that the reason she stayed in Mamma Mia for almost 4 years was the fact that there aren't that many roles for women her age. Given that she's done this show in two different regional theaters, along with numerous workshops, I'm sure she finds it worthy of her talents.

I'm sure Carmello would do it... Everyone's expecting her.
What a hideous set.... I'm hearing Lunt-Fontanne...

Carmello is current musical theater royalty, but she won't sell a ticket. Not full price anyway. I'm curious that they haven't looked for an above-the-title name. The material is too rarefied to attract a wide audience; I don't think it has anything to do with Gifford's track record. On film she's been played by Faye Dunaway, fictionalized by everyone from Barbara Stanwyck to Agnes Moorehead. I'm a big fan of Carmello's, but on Broadway, at 137 bucks a pop, the show needs a star, preferably a big one.
Ironically, Kathie Lee herself would sell more tickets, if she played the role.

I don't see the irony but I think it is inevitable that Lee will play the role somewhere down the pike.
Her name as writer on it may sell some tix but than people will be disapointed that she ain't in it. Like Billy Joel in MOVIN' OUT. (not comparing Lee's writing to Joel's).

Posted: 7/14/12 at 11:10pmWhat IS ironic is that Gifford has written a musical about a woman who once said: "I'd take every barrel of liquor, every bottle of booze, every crate and I'd empty them in the river, yes sir!"

Posted: 7/14/12 at 11:39pmThe Jekyll & HYDE revival will also be going in a Nederlander house... I would imagine that would get the bigger of the houses available (with the name casting, as well as I would imagine elaborate set).

"The Jekyll and Hyde revival is only a limited run."
What does that have to do with what theatre it gets? The Nederlanders are (in part) producing the tour, which ends at the end of March.

That's one ugly set. I didn't think sets got uglier than LEAP OF FAITH, but boy was I wrong!
Kathie Lee is an atrocity, but it still doesn't surprise me that this show is coming to Broadway. Maybe she can solicit letters from Good Samaritan audience members and have original songs by the one and only KLG about them performed at curtain call like she does on her daily TV booze-fest.

I don't think either show will fill the Lunt.
J&H has gained some fans since it's last BWay run (where it never filled a much smaller house) and J&H now has semi-names but they ain't Hugh Jackman. And a limited run will always be the lesser rental of a Theatre, they want long runs.
Philly, When does J&H hit NYC?
