So sad to see it close. The group that's going to tonight's final performance - fill us in!

Gary Beach...wonder what he'll do next?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Needless to say, it was a wonderful performance. Everyone was greeted with enthusiastic applause upon their entrance. The performances were on-target all the way around. For me, the most thrilling moment was at the end of Act I. Gary sang 'I Am What I Am' with such feeling and emotion, it was incredible. Not only was this the final show, it was Gay Pride Day and here he was singing the 'Gay Anthem' with such passion and fervor it was impossible not to have a lump in one's throat. When he finished, the audience stood and cheered. He pulled off his wig, threw it at Georges and walked down the steps, off the stage. Instead of immediately walking up the aisle, he stopped at the third row, grabbed a man sitting on the aisle (his partner?) and gave him a full-on, mouth-to-mouth kiss. With the audience cheering him, he then marched up the aisle and out of the theatre. It was one of the most moving moments I have ever witnessed in the theatre.
At the final curtain, of course the applause was thunderous. Finally, Gary stepped forward, silenced the crowd, and gave a lovely speech, thanking eveyone, especially Les Cagelles, for making this engagement a pleasure 'from start to finish'. He called Robert Goulet 'the real deal', and finished by comparing the theatre to a lover; 'every once in awhile you get your heart broken, and tonight is one of those times'. It was a beautiful, touching speech.

Me too Cats! And I wore my La Cage shirt too. Almost had a boa as well, but thought that might get a few odd stares... re: The LA CAGE Closing Night Thread - Au Revior!

Oh. Ok. Cos I saw some woman walking around with a La Cage tee on. I figured there couldn't be that many fans so it must have been you. Guess not.

Awwwwwwwww - sounds like such a lovely, inspiring, powerful night.

I so wish I could have seen this production!! And there's no cast recording for the revival - which would have been WONDERFUL.
