Has anyone seen a production of The Last Session? Is it a good show? The music seems to be quite good.
What is your opinion of this show.

Posted: 2/21/05 at 3:42pmI have. It's a great show. It's funny, sad, touching, and yes, the music is very good. My mom knows the guy who wrote it so I've seen it a few times. :) If you like the music, you should also look into getting Steve's own cds. I love his voice.

Steve Schalchlin is my favorite person in the world. Really.
In short, TLS is about a gay singer/songwriter who is dying of AIDS and decides to record one "last session" with some of his friends.
The songs are wonderful, and despite the subject matter, it's filled with humor and grace throughout.
I do prefer Steve and Jimmy's new show, The Big Voice: God or Merman? but I have travelled the country to see TLS in some very interesting venues.
Steve's website, by the way, is www.bonusround.com - if you go back into the diary archives, you can read back to the show's original inception, bringing it to off-Broadway and across the country. It's a virtual goldmine of history.

Posted: 2/21/05 at 4:45pmI saw it in LA about 5 years ago at the Tiffany Theater. I believe it was the NY cast. I thought it was a little too cliché and preachy. Very Lifetime movie of the week storyline.

Add me to the list of people who would recommend this show, which I have seen in a few different places.
The fascinating thing about THE LAST SESSION is that it is a moving show that brings a lot of people to tears, but it's also frequently really, really funny. Even when you already know the jokes.
It's definitely worth seeing.
