"It's been about 5 years since I last updated this page... please forgive me. Since I last posted, I've traveled quite a bit. I was able to spend time in CA. And then headed to Chicago to start promotions for THE PIRATE QUEEN. Tickets sales were fantastic and I think Chicago is going to welcome us with open arms. The city is almost as excited as I am for the show to be up and running.
I have begun recording "the album". Stephen Schwartz and I went into the studio last week and laid down "Making Good". Stephen is at the piano and it was a thrill to sing with him again. There's something really magical about a composer playing his/her own music. I am so grateful for him entrusting his (as he puts it) "murdered darling" in the care of my voice.
Let's see...I'll be living at Birdland this next month. On June 19th, I'll be singing a duet with David Burnham for his one man show and then on June 26th AND 27th, I'll be back with my show...BLOCK PARTY! I know many of you have already made your reservations and I can't tell you how much your support means to me. It will certainly be a fun and memorable night thanks to you!
In July, I fly to Ireland to work with the orchestra for THE PIRATE QUEEN. I'll be in Dublin for about 5 days and will have the opportunity to really collaborate with the creative and production staff. I'm sure it will be a grand trip. When I get back, I hope to jump back into the studio and try to record as many tunes as possible before starting rehearsals with the full PQ cast.
There's the low down...I'll be a crazy woman for the next couple months, but all will be worth it in the end. As the Irish would say, "I'm blessed with work".
Much joy,
Stephanie J."

OMG. I can't wait for it all. Pirate and a CD. Ya. This girl is so amazing.
Amazing... AND BUSY!
Too bad she she didn't do anything (for the public anyway) when she was in CA, but after reading all that I totally understand. Breathe, girl, breathe!
Love the picture of Stephanie and Jim Caruso. They both look very chic!

I'm going to be at Birdland for her "Block Party". Her singing calms the beast within. Love that girl.
This is great stuff! Thank you for sharing

I DON'T KNOW, BUT RUN THERE ANYWAY!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm delirious. I should sleep. But yeah--it's a Les Miz-esque musical, so I assume it will sell well?
Shall I say "OY VEY" now or later?
It's weird, last summer I went to see Wicked in LA, met her and everything. Didn't think much of it, and now her name's everywhere. She did do amazing though!

i cant wait for the CD!!!
and please dont get mad at me, but what is PIRATE QUEEN about?
Why would anyone get mad at you? It's a perfectly fine question.
"The Pirate Queen takes elements from the extraordinary life of Grace O'Malley, pirate, chieftain, lover and mother in 16th Century Ireland"
The link below will give you more details.
PIRATE QUEEN
Thanks for all the links and pictrues and info on PIRATE QUEEN. This is going to a great show- at least one can hope
We can only trust and pray that it'll be as huge and successful as Boubil and Schonberg's other shows!
By the way... more news on Steph's upcoming CD
This is from Scott Alan's latest blog
"In good news, Stephanie J. Block has officially decided to record 'Never Neverland' for her upcoming cd, and I couldn't be happier. I have various live recordings, and a demo recording, but now, a real recording with a nine piece band backing her. I am so excited, and this totally makes up for the song not being recorded at Mondays night Neo II Benefit. It makes up for it 100% over. From what Stephanie told me, it sure sounds like her album is going to be a huge success, but who would expect anything less ? I will be first in line to buy it. I am sure I will see many of you there. As of now, that is all I can say about my life, but that seems like a lot, right ? I hope you are all doing well. xoxo -SA"
PS - A belated hello to you, Bugsmom! Just noticed your post now.
