I recently saw The Light at the Piazza and let me say that it is the best work of art I have seen this season. Adam Guettel is brilliant. The music from the show actually had me closing my eyes and just listening at points. THE SCORE IS AMAZING! Helped by overwhelming orchestrations by the composer and Tod Sperling. The stage and the costumes transport you to Italy, NO QUESTION. The book is simply a perfect match for the show, an almost perfect marrage. Kathy O'Hara is captivating, Victoria Clark is just shy of perfect, Matthew Morrison is PHENOMINAL. The realism of the piece is astounding. The first song Morrison has is in all Italian and had me in love with the show right away. The show keeps it up through Fabrizio's family, who are just incredible. Mark Harelik (Fabrizio's father)is a treat to watch. Fabrizio's mother(Patti Cohenour) is a delight. Fabrizio's brother, Michael Berresse is The daughter in law, played by Sarah Uriarte Berry, is one of the most amazing women Ive seen in a featured role EVER!!!! The story is just magical and helps you remeber what art should be, up with Caroline, Or Change and Sunday in the Park with George. The people at The Lincoln Center are saints for continuing to support REAL ART in the theatre!!!! I emplore you to go out and see this show... tell all your friends to help make this a bigg succes so more shows like it can have success on Broadway.

Light In The Piazza
oh i cant wait, and i completely agree with you,i love shows like this,i love works of art i am so excited i am seeing it ,and great review ,i think this show will show broadway that big show stopping shows with big belting stuff and big names arent always part of a musical,a musical is a peice of art and caroline or change, suandy in the park with george are all art(broadway has gone so out there with wicked and all these pop musicals) and it all originated from classics , itallian aris and opera's and classics roggers and hammerstein, gershwins, opera everything.People should go see art and not enough people went and saw caroline or change and thats why it closed and it didnt deserve too,and someone like me will try there hardest to keep this show open.Cause musical theater and broadway isint all about belitng and stuff,it originated from classical. Now i love wicked and all these shows ,but i am classicaly trained and im not going to start belting my brains out till i hit the age and are trained well enough to do so.Shoshana bean, eden espinosa, idina menzel, norbert leo butz, david ayers, sherie renne scott, mathew morrison ARE ALL CLASSICALY TRAINED it all originated from that, and thats ART
I have to be honest...I saw this show yesterday and I wasn't hooked. I'm not sure why, but half way through the first act I was still waiting to be sitting on the edge of my seat. The music was beautiful but the material seemed to surpass the performances. Maybe it's because it's early on and the show still has to find its pace but I wasn't taken in the way I was hoping.
Would you mind changing the subject line to the Light IN the Piazza.
What a cast! I didn't realise all those jolly people were in it.
Why is this an "unoffical" review?
You saw it. You reviewed it. Then it's official.
