I just transferred an old VHS copy of " The Little Prince " onto DVD . Besides the fact the tape quality was quite good I discovered the movie was not the train wreck it was supposed to be
It has a young Richard Kiley & his great voice , a young Gene Wilder doing a comic number & Fosse's last screen appearance as a snake in a number called " Snake In The Grass ". I like the part that even though he is in the desert ( head to toe in black with the derby hat & white spats) he sprinkles sand underneath him to do a soft shoe
Both the movie & soundtrack long out of print ( never went to cd)i was lucky to have the movie & now I have it on DVD

I thought I was the only person on the planet who didn't think The Little Prince was a trainwreck, as you put it. It's nice to know it's available again! Thanks!
Mr. Roxy, I adore your Little Prince avatar! I've been a fan of this lovely, little story for years.

Posted: 11/26/05 at 9:00pmI remember a few months ago there was a thread about songs that bring tears to your eyes, and I'd said "Little Prince, From Who Knows Where?", sung by RIchard Kiley. I haven't seen this in so long, maybe 15 years or more, but the line from that song "please, Little Prince, don't take your smile away from me," still haunts me. I can still hear it in my head. Mr. Roxy, am I remembering it right?

I love that movie. Bob Fosse and Gene Wilder in the same movie is always a treat. I found my mom's old VHS of it a few years ago, and I bought the CD just last year. I wish I could find the VHS again so I could watch it.
We'll learn to love a lot, and live a lot, and give and give and give a lot...okay, I gotta go find that CD.

And for my dear, dear friend:
"And at night you will look up at the stars....My star will just be one of the stars, for you. And so you will love to watch all the stars in the heavens . . . In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night . . . You--only you--will have stars that can laugh!...And when your sorrow is comforted (time soothes all sorrows) you will be content that you have known me. You will always be my friend....And your friends will be properly astonished to see you laughing as you look up at the sky! Then you will say to them, 'Yes, the stars always make me laugh!'
May you soon find comfort and be able to laugh when you look at the stars.

Lerner and Loewe wrote this? Right?
And Don Black and (I think?) John Barry worked on a version that never got past previews. Also, in the late 90s, there was word of Jim Steinman producing a remake for television (or he was down as composer)

Do you know why it never made it past the previews?
