Disney on Ice is a annual, recently bi-annual fixture for many Aussie kids. They used to do holiday seasons at the Sydney Entertainment Centre (a huge barn of an arena - Hugh Jackman played there with Boy from Oz, and also Tamsin Carroll played there in Grease)
I remember seeing their productions of Snow White, Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan+101 Dalmatians mashed up into one show, Toy Story 1, Toy Story 2, and a Princess thingy. They were my first real introduction to live performance of any sort.
Sadly in recent years they've gone from doing their classics to shows like HSM 1, HSM 2 and then HSM 1+2 abridged.
Funny you posted this Mama' - i only found out this week that the palladium was the "National Ice Palace" skating rink before matcham redesigned it....
Disney on Ice still tour the UK on occasion but are mostly a fixture on the continent, and endlessly tour the US. I temped for the producers a few years ago and at the time I think they had eight or nine Disney shows out, something like five or six in the US, one in Asia, and one or two in Europe. I also suspect, based on my time with the company, that BKL are better employers.
