The Lunt-Fontanne Theatre

Posted: 4/1/08 at 2:00pmSo I've read all of the posts about this theatre in particular, about how the theatre is very narrow and deep, but what are really the disadvantages of sitting in seats in the rear-mezzanine? Is the soundboard up there?

Posted: 4/1/08 at 2:01pmI sat there Friday night. The seats are horribly cramped, and my knees were bruised from being pushed into the seat in front of me.

Posted: 4/1/08 at 2:10pmHa ha, I guess I'm glad that I have the last row on the left side. Or am I? Are any of the sets distorted at all? Aside from the uncomfortableness, how is view the show from there?

"but what are really the disadvantages of sitting in seats in the rear-mezzanine?"
The real disadvantage of sitting there is that you can still see AND hear The Little Mermaid.

Posted: 4/1/08 at 2:14pmI sat in the second to last row, and I have long legs so it was uncomfortable, but the view of the show is not bad at all. You can't see the top of the ship in the beginning, but that's all I remember having to bend down to see.

Posted: 4/1/08 at 2:19pmThank you so much! I just got really nervous. I'm sitting in row L which is the last row on house-left. I was nervous after reading some reviews but it's hard to find any poster on here that can really answer a question for the life of them. Some people claim it's very far back, but what about when you're hometown theatres go back to row HH (behind single-lettered orchestra) and you're used to sitting there. I'd like to think that my view won't be so different distance wise.

I still had a great view despite the bruising!
You can see the full set...Enjoy the show!

You should be a ble to see okay. Like others have said, the ship at the beginning is slightly obstructed, but not too much, and you can only see to the front of the stage (not that any action really happens off of it).
Also, you have to get used to the chandaliers hanging down low in front of you.
The seats aren't that bad (they're better than the mezzanine at the Imperial) unless you're really tall, which I am not, so I was fine.

view wise they aren't so bad. When I saw Mermaid I sat in the mezz as well. My only problem with the show when I saw it from the mezz is this. That the set isn't designed to be viewed from one level up. Most notably would have to be the plastic set peaces that they use as water. They have them rock back and forth as if they were waves. A visual that would look good if you were at eye level with them. But, it is a visual that is lost when looking at them from above.
I also noticed how BAD the blocking was for this show. Oh my god was it bad. She has to learn that she was directing a Broadway show and not an opera. But, that is another rant for another day.

Posted: 4/1/08 at 6:42pmIt can't be worse than the Nederlander - when I saw RENT i was on the extremem sides and my seat was literally tilted inward, so my whole body was was forced to the left.

Posted: 4/1/08 at 7:43pmI don't think it had anything to do with the location of your seat at the Nederlander. Last time I was there in the Mezz it felt like the whole Mezz was on an angel and not in any good way like stadium seating or anything like that. I can't tell you how much in need of a renovation this theatre is in.
