I have a few questions about the MET. In big productions like "War & Peace" - how much do the chorus memebers get paid? Do they just hold open auditions?

The main members of the chorus are on salary and get a certain amount a year. They also get overtime if they work more than a certain amount of hours a day - if they are rehearsing a show and performing one the same night this happens a lot.
They also have an auxillary chorus that is used in really big pieces (like War and Peace) and they are paid by the hour.

How much each get - I have no idea.

Met Choristers get paid approximately $90,000/year.
NYC Opera - (except this season) - $60,000/year

They did hold open auditions for this revival of WAR AND PEACE.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body
