The Mandy Patinkin Irks Me Thread

So Ive wanted to post this thread for a while, but never got around to it. HE BOTHERS THE HELL OUT OF ME!!

He's fine in roles where he doesnt sing (IE Dead Like Me, The PRincess Bride) but in musicals he overdoes it sooo much.

Watching him do Buddy's Dilemma in the Follies Concert on DVD was almost painful to sit through.

Forbidden Broadway hit the nail on the head with they're parody of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, with Mandy singing Somewhat Overindulgent

Anybody feel me on this?

Nope.
Love the man, love his work, love his voice, love his upper range and love almost everything he's ever done.
He and George Hearn are my idols.

I Don't agree at all . He was brilliant in "Evita" and in "Sunday In The Park With George".

I have only seen bits and pieces of the George DVD so I can't judge, but his Che was...for lack of a better word...prissy.

I too don't care for his voice, but his acting is supurb.

He was great in "Sunday in the Park" and "Secret Garden". Love his voice.

But there seem to be so many people who dislike his voice and for the life of me I can NEVER understand why. It's gorgeous and emotional and effortlessly flowing.

The only things I like him in are Sunday in the Park and The Wild Party. He seems very OCD to me or something. He's got little ticks so I think he can be brilliant if he's cast correctly. His singing voice, esp his upper range really annoys me. I don't know whether it's because I'm a tenor or what but I can't stand it. I wouldn't buy a CD of his, but I'd def watch a movie of his or see him in a play he's good for. I can't stand his buddy's blues. It's better than Bronson Pinchot's, but I've seen it done waaaaaay better than both of those men. People generally seem polarized by him. Many hate him and the others looove him. He's one of those performers. But I wouldn't go to a concert of his. I think I'd get a headache. What makes him have staying power is his uniqueness.

I adore both of them and adore their work.
But they are both very polarizing.

I dont think u intended to, but in that statement u called Mandy a female, and incinuated that Patti was not one. LOL

And having seen both of them in Evita, I can honestly say I have rarely seen two more enthralling live performances. I also thought he was perfection in Sunday in the Park, and the recording of Secret Garden is one of my favorites ever.

My first exposure to Mandy was in "Evita". I could not have asked for a better performance. His command of the stage and the use of his voice, along with Patti's performance, made that show for me. They were quite incredible and apparently the Tony voters thought so as well. His work in "SITPWG" was brilliant. He was able to effortlessly sing some of the most difficult music written for the stage. Others have had great difficulty mastering "Finishing The Hat".

He and Hearn should have both been given Tonys for SITPWG and La Cage, respectively.
I hate that one had to win over the other.

If Mandy and Bernadette don't get along, kudos to them for their chemistry. Them together doing Sondheim's Evening Primrose gives me chills.

I recently bought the LP of Broadway's Evita. I really like Mandy's voice in it, even if it is completely wrong for the part. His vibratto was a lot more controlled back then... what the hell happened?

The man has a lovely voice. Having said that, I will now say this - I can't stand to watch/listen to him sing. He is completely self-indulgent - I always have the feeling that he's not singing to advance a plot nor interpret a song, but rather to show us all what a lovely voice he has.
