Last night I saw one of the most incrediable shows in my history of going to the theatre. It was the Nat'l tour of Miss Saigon and it was absolutely unbelievable.
Many of the cast members are fresh out of college and there is not a weak link in the entire show.
Jennifer Paz, who played Kim, is a dead ringer for Lea Salonga. Rachel Kopf, Ellen, has one of the most incrediable high belts I have heard in a long time. But the real star last night was The Engineer, Johann Michael Camat. He had PHENOMENAL stage presence and charisma. The man practically got a standing ovation after The American Dream.
If any of you get the chance to see the current tour you MUST get tickets!!!

It's terrific!
It's a modern re-telling of Madame Butterfly
Now, I'm gonna warn you in advance, the helicopter is not quite the same as it was on Broadway because of touring restrictions but it's still really cool. You don't even realize it's fake until it flies away
Have fun and let me know what you thought!

Posted: 10/31/04 at 12:32pmGlad to hear that is a good tour. I have tickets to see it in November. I was really nervous because I LOVED the cast recording and unfortunately, never had the chance to see it on Broadway before it closed.

I would love love love to see this show again. It was actually my first Broadway show experience, and I just think it was one of the best shows ever to grace the Broadway stage.
Thanks for the info!

Posted: 10/31/04 at 12:58pmQuestion for ya, broadwaystar2b. Was there the flying car effect in "American Dream"? I can't wait for it to come to Nashville in November!

Posted: 10/31/04 at 1:00pmYes this is an excellent tour. It's much better than most other national tours that are calling themselves "Broadway" national tours, even though they are non-equity and are basically just rip-offs. Although this restaged "Miss Saigon" has little to do with the original production except for its logo, both Kim and the Engineer (at least when I saw it in February) were played by top-notch Equity performers who had done it in the Cameron Mackintosh version. It was a great night of theater!

rclocalz,
I'm aware of the flying car effect in the original production, but no, they didn't have it in this road show
honestly, I don't know how they could have toured with it
most of the special effects are done "multimedia style" but I think it's actually better this way because it makes you focus more on the story and the actors (who are fantastic!) rather than being all about the gimmicks

I was going to see it this week in New Brunswick but there was a change in plans.
I can't imagine anyone but Lea singing the role though. . .

I had wanted to go on tour with this show SOOOOOOO badly! But the pit was already hired by the time I found out about it.
My loss...

Posted: 10/31/04 at 5:01pmwow, I saw Jennifer Paz doing Miss Saigon when I was in high school (that was 7-8 years ago!) I can't believe she's still in it. She's amazing.
