I'll be happy to "give her time". I've just never experienced such a negative audience (and board) reaction to anyone performing in Les Mis before. Seems to hurt the rest of the cast. Usually if a performance is THAT bad, they aren't given that chance. I hope she does improve, some are indicating that she already has. We'll see by opening I guess!
Only positive comments please...

I finally saw the show a couple of weeks ago and wasn't sure what all the bashing was about. I thought she was great. Then I came online, went to the site that shall not be named, and looked up other versions of the song. After hearing people sing "I Dreamed A Dream" the way it has been sung in the past, I can see why people are having issues with Daphne's version. That said, I think I like her version better. Granted, I am a fan of hers and her version was the first I heard, but listening to other people sing that song I thought, "Ok, nice song, sounds pretty, but where is the emotion? Isn't this woman dying and worried about leaving behind a child?"
I can't wait to see this show again and really can't wait to hear more of Daphne.
There's my two cents! :)
Well, I have to say that the first time I saw
Daphne in Les Mis Oct.27th I thought to myself
she must be sick or have a sore throat.
Her acting was good but the voice was rough.
Second time I went to the show Nov. 8th, I thought not only
was her voice better, she looked more confident and convincing
in the role.
Third time was just last night Nov.23rd,
I felt her acting was very dramatic.
She showed the sensitivity of a mother who had lost
her child due to events beyond her control. Her
acting is remarkable and worthy of praise!
Her voice expresses sorrow and sadness at the loss
of her beloved Cosette. Furthermore, she is
quite fiesty as she directs her anger towards
those who have wrongly accused her of her crimes.
She is very worthy of high praise for her
singing as well as her acting.
As for those who don't cheer her when she solos
"I Dreamed a Dream", shame on them.
We cheered last night for her as she
did a remarkable job!
I have to tell you she got better since
the first time I saw her and now she
is growing on me.
I saw the matinee today--it was my first time seeing the revival, but I can tell based on earlier comments I'd read that Daphne has improved since previews began. I thought her acting was great for the role, nothing like the crazy theatrics I'd heard about. I will say that I was unsure about her voice at the beginning...it was a little too "Daphne", from her entrance up through "I Dreamed A Dream" (there was nothing terribly wrong about that song, but it wasn't spectacular and audience reaction to it was lukewarm). She was really fantastic during the arrest, however. "You had your foreman send me away--yes, YOU WERE THERE..." was fierce and spot-on. Death scene was very good, and she was wonderful in the finale...as someone on BWW said recently, her voice really changes from the first act because she's at peace now.
And you couldn't ask for anyone friendlier at the stage door. She got to everyone who wanted a photo and she personalized each autograph, right down to getting the correct spelling of the name. I'm so glad I finally got to see her on stage. She does a pretty solid job in Les Mis.
"and she personalized each autograph, right down to getting the correct spelling of the name."
Lol, she is the only person I have met (not that I have met so many) who does this and it really just adds such a personal feel to it. It isn't enough that she asks your name, but she makes sure she spells it correctly too!
She really is just such a nice woman . . . at least from the little I know her.
