Tilda Swinton makes her New York stage debut

So Tilda Swinton - who has somehow never been on a New York stage in a forty-year career ... is doing MAN TO MAN Off-Broadway! That’s a one-woman Manfred Karge play, originally written for East German audiences in the 80s, about a widow who assumes her dead husband’s identity to keep his job.

It’s a genuinely demanding piece and an odd choice for a debut, which is sort of the point. She could have walked into any prestige Broadway revival she wanted and instead picked a 90-minute solo in a small house. I’d argue that tells you more about her than the role does.
