This absolutly ROCKED! Loved every second of it
I ADORED it. So great. All the little musical refrences. I loved "I'm Dominican" that was great. Turk and Carla and seriously SING!
"Guy Love" is free on iTunes. Awesome.
Unfortunately, although the people who frequent this board might have found it amusing, I don't think episodes like this do anything to help get people who might never have gone to a musical to change their minds. It was all pretty tongue in cheek and silly, which is fine, but had an underlying feeling of mockery to it that I find find kind of insulting.
First of all..LOVE Scrubs...one of the best shows on TV in the last 5 years.
Second of all..ANYTHING that puts the musical artform out there to the masses is a GOOD THING.
Third of all..Excellent episode, touching, funny, clever and tongue in cheek, very much the flavor of the series. KUDOS for the plot devise--It worked very well and was not just 'let's have them burst into song'
PS-Nobody mentioned a brief appearance by Jennifer Lee Warren as a patient in the Miss You Carla number.
Do you think (because I don't) that this episode was meant to change anyone's mind about anything?
Do you watch the show often? I ask because this show is quirky. They've experimented with various scenarios like the one that "supposed" if JD's life were a sitcom.
I think this episode was just another clever way to expand the scrubs "universe" by adding a musical element introduced by an ailment.
I look at the episode as just another quirky (but for me a thoroughly enjoyable) direction the show took this week

I JUST LOVED THIS EPISODE...AND I'VE NEVER SEEN SCRUBS BEFORE IN MY LIFE...IT WAS JUST A JOY TO WATCH...THEY SHOULD DO ONE OF THESE EVERY MONTH...IT WAS JUST SO ENTERTAINING...I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT IT...ALL THE SONGS WERE SO MUCH FUN...(WITH THE EXCEPTION OF GUY LOVE...A LITTLE WEIRD...BUT STILL OKAY)...THE DOMINICAN SONG WAS HILARIOUS...AND THAT ONE THAT SOUNDED LIKE A CROSS BETWEEN RENT AND LES MISERABLES WAS GREAT, TOO...
COMBINED WITH UGLY BETTY, IT WAS A TOTALLY AWESOME EVENING OF TV...
I saw Jennifer Leigh Warren's name on the credits, but I couldn't figure out where she was in the show. Thanks for clarifying that for me!

I've seen every episode of Scrubs so far, and have loved their previous homages to musicals, but I thought the writing here was just sub-par.

I second the "homage list" idea, I'm not sure I caught them all.
For anyone who likes Herman or Flops, if you listen closely in the opening number, the first time they pan up and circle around Stephanie, you can hear a part of You I Like from The Grand Tour. It's the "can you imagine that" phrase, it comes at 2:54 on iTunes. Not intended I'm sure, but it made me smile.
Yeah, I'm a dork.

I don't think the show holds musicals in contempt at all, Sueleen. They've incorporated musical numbers since the first season, everything from West Side Story to A Chorus Line. Yes, most of the sequences are utterly ridiculous, but what makes them funny is that nobody's winking.
The musical episode wasn't totally successful, but I really can't see the mockery going on in bits like the diagnosis or even Cox and Janitor's rant song. The show, no matter how outrageous its antics, is always utterly earnest underneath it all, which is why its head didn't disappear up its ironic ass this week.
The episode is up on iTunes!!

Great episode, but the big shocked is that Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx did NOT write the music for the best number, "Guy Love". That was actually by the guy who does the incidental music on the show! Funny, could've sworn it was them. For those who are wondering, Lopez and Marx wrote "Welcome to Sacred Heart", "Everything Comes Down to Poo", the finale to the first act (the Les Mis parody), and the second act finale (the Grease/Rent parody), and all the rest was the usual Scrubs composer. Surprising, definately...but still, Stephanie rocked! She definately needs more attention paid to...maybe a best guest star emmy?...okay, maybe that's a bit too far...
I thought it was soo good..loved all the references and i actually cried a little when they did the Rentish one, haha...i thought the music perfectly reflected the scene.

Who's the Scrubs composer? What's his/her name? I loved the song about the Dominican employee...that was cute.
Just watched "Guy Love" on the Site That Shall Not Be Named--really REALLY well done! Now I can't get that silly song out of my head.
It's the antidote to the Isaiah Washington situation on Gray's Anatomy. Isaiah should be forced to perform it with TR Knight.

My favorite song was, easily, Carla and Turk's "I'm Dominican." That song was just so fun to watch, especially since Carla and Turk are my favorite characters on the show.
Poor Sarah Chalke. Easily the weak link of the singers of the cast. Still love her, but you can tell she's not much of a singer.
Actually, there's a pretty funny interview with Bill Lawrence, the creator of Scrubs, about the musical episode, in which it says a little about Sarah Chalke. I definitely giggled a bit after reading this, having seen Sarah perform in the episode.

"Welcome to Sacred Heart," "Everything Comes Down To Poo," and the Finale were all written by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx (with additional lyrical assistance from the writer, Debra Fordham).
"Guy Love," "For the Last Time, I'm Dominican," "The Rant Song," and "We're Gonna Miss You Carla," as well as two short musical conversations interlaced throughout were written by Scrubs castmember Paul F. Perry along with Fordham. Perry is an arranger for his band "The Blanks" (who appear in the show as "Ted's Band" and "The Worthless Peons").
The song "When The Truth Comes Out" was written mainly by Lopez, Marx, and Fordham, but uses musical motifs from two of the songs by Perry.
That was so cute. I loved how at the end Zach Braff was like, "So, who was the best singer?- you know, in your head...don't let the fact that I went to theater camp effect your decision". I found that part hysterical because it's true.
I die everytime I hear, "BUM-PER BUDD-IES!"
So. hysterical.
