Posted: 8/4/05 at 1:38pmMatt- it just looks like they're giving up too easily from my perspective. Obviously, I don't know everything that's going on. But the way some mediocre and even horrible shows seem to go on through week after money-losing week, it's discouraging that a relatively popular and excellent play is closing (seemingly) too soon.

It is very puzzling and very disappointing.
I just got tickets to see it once again. (This will be my 4th time). I hate to see it go.

I am finally seeing Pillowman tomorrow night and was wondering how often understudies go on. Being a musical fan, this will be my first straight play. I am under the assumption that play actors call in sick less than musical actors, is that correct?
Does anyone know if the current leads have been going on this week?

Posted: 8/10/05 at 3:00pmI saw it front row center last Wednesday night and was impressed by the writing and the performances. Could this be a ploy to drive up ticket sales?

Posted: 8/10/05 at 3:02pmNo. The theatre has another tenant starting in November. (Lincoln Center Theatre's production of Edward Albee's Seascape).

Off topic, but they FINALLY released the window card for this show! Just as it is closing.
A big deal for me as I collect them for the shows I've seen. I heard that Jeff Goldblum and Billy Crudup wouldn't approve the card images until recently.

Posted: 8/10/05 at 3:30pmOMG!!! I must get one! I was wondering about that, and I almost popped into the Booth on Sunday (it was letting out just as I was walking by). Damn! Good to know though. Thanks!! Is it the pic that's on the most recent of the ever-rotating images on the Playbill (their two faces, a black and white photo)??

Posted: 8/10/05 at 3:31pmNo, it is the one on the marquee at the theatre. A large Jeff interrogating a small Billy on top an dthen Billy hunched over writing his book.

Posted: 8/10/05 at 5:46pmThat is really bizarre. I genuinely expected it to run for at least a year. It's a huge critical and audience success, and to close it just because the original company is leaving seems too easy. Surely it can't be that hard to find worthy replacements. I was actually looking forward to seeing who they would cast next. "The Pillowman" is one of the most extraordinary plays of the decade so far, and it deserves a much longer run, not an untimely death like this.

Posted: 8/10/05 at 6:31pmI finally saw it a week ago and was just blown away. So disapponited about it's closing. I must see it again.

Latest news- the show is recouping. So I guess the producers are thinking if they made their money back, why risk losses with a new cast? Still, I'd wish they'd been greedy and tried for bigger profits.

Posted: 8/12/05 at 12:46pmWell, good for them! Even though it's a shame that they didn't give a replacement cast a shot, it's nice to they they recouped!
