When the cook Mason is talking about dinner, he says the blancmange (pronounced "blah-mahnge") hasn't jelled yet.
What happened to that pudding?

And further, how come Mason knows what blancmange is but is clueless about foie gras?

The blancmange is at the tennis court, practising... and turning all the other players into Scotsmen.

Do you suppose Trotter wolfed down the pudding when no one was looking?
After all, he ate all the apricots

The pink blancmange has been accounted for!
This prized pudding makes a unity of three appearances in the play, if only by words. Its first mention is when Mason says it isn't stiff yet. He later says that it hasn't jelled yet. And finally! Trotter mentions after their chicken feast something to the effect "it was a fine pudding."
So Mason has somehow achieved the feat of creating a pink blancmange pudding, a dessert of kings, in the trenches at the front!
And by the end of the play, though we never get to see its presentation, it has become part of Trotter's magnificent girth!

Posted: 5/9/07 at 2:14pmThats not the real one I don't think. Mine just said Journey's End I believe. After all, what money do they have to afford a nicer design?
#14re: Where IS That Missing Pink Blancmange in Journey's End?
Posted: 5/9/07 at 2:16pmOK I was gonna say. mine was them all lined up with a blue background with the words Journey's End above it. Glad we got that clear. Now I don't need to buy 2 :)

Posted: 5/9/07 at 2:22pmYes, that picture is what the program looks like, except most people don't have one with the little blue opening night circle on it. I have not seen a program for that show without the picture on it.

Posted: 5/9/07 at 2:57pmwoah really?! i saw it on the first Saturday evening performance so maybe they changed it since i saw it. that's really cool if that's the case! mine was in colour too with them all lined up in a row & the words "Journey's End" above them.

Posted: 5/9/07 at 3:51pmI saw it March 31st and that was the Playbill they gave me, the cast seated at the table smiling. I suppose they're definitely budgeting now.

The playbill changed post-opening night, though I'm not sure how long after.
There was a blue variation with the photos and the text, much like the marquee, and this more earthy one.

Posted: 5/9/07 at 11:21pmI saw the show late in previews and mine is in color but with them standing in a line with a white background and the title above. A lot of shows start off with a complicated Playbill cover with photos when the show first opens and is using color, and then switch to something simpler like a plain logo because photos tend to look like crap in black & white (also not having cast photos is easier once replacements start coming in). But this doesn't seem to be the case here since it seems they had more than one variant of color Playbills.

Posted: 5/10/07 at 12:46amI saw it in the middle of march and that is my playbill (minus the opening night sticker)
